*(Y/D/N) = Your daughter's name*

~

After a long day of running errands, I was finally back home.

"I'm home!" I called as I closed the door behind me.

I heard what sounded like my daughter running up the stairs.

I hung up my keys and jacket before walking into the living room.

The room was a mess of toys. The couch cushions were stacked on the floor along with all the throw pillows and blankets we had. On top of the pile sat my husband, Drew.

"Why are you wearing a crown made out of plastic knives?" I asked.

He got up from where he sat to give me a hug and a kiss.

"(Y/D/N) has named me ruler of the domain that is our house and you can't be a proper ruler if you don't have a crown," Drew said. "So, I made one."

"And the mountain of pillows and blankets?" I asked, pointing to the pile.

"My glorious throne," Drew said. "Obviously."

"Seems like you two had a full day," I said. "But, uh, where did (Y/D/N) go?"

"She went to grab something from upstairs," Drew said.

As if on queue, I heard her come running down the stairs. She was wearing her princess dress.

"You're back!" she yelled as she came to a halt

"You're back!" she yelled as she came to a halt.

"Yeah, how was-" I started to say before she cut me off.

"Here," (Y/D/N) said as she handed me a pirate hat and plastic sword.

She handed a plastic sword to Drew as well.

"You are the pirate trying to kidnap me, the princess," (Y/D/N) said. "It is up to the king of the castle to save the day."

"Good thing I'm better with a sword," Drew said with a cocky smile on his face.

"Oh, those sound like fighting words," I said.

The three of us ran back to the living room where we spent the next few hours.

Later...

"Goodnight, sweetie," I said as I turned off (Y/D/N)'s bedroom light. "I love you."

I closed her door behind me before heading back downstairs.

Drew handed me a cup of tea before we sat down on the couch.

"Is she asleep?" Drew asked.

"Yeah, she was exhausted," I said.

"I'm not surprised," Drew said. "She was running around here almost all day."

"You know, you are so great with her," I said. "I didn't think I'd ever find someone who could care so much about her."

"She's a great kid," Drew said. "You both have had me wrapped around your finger since the day we met."

"I love you so much," I said.

"I love you too," Drew said as he pulled me close for a kiss.
