I finished getting ready before heading downstairs. Johnny was waiting for me by the door.

"Ready?" he asked.

"Ready," I said.

Johnny had been hyping up tonight all week. He told me he had a date night planned with something special for our anniversary but wouldn't give me any hints as to what it was.

Our first stop was a fancy restaurant uptown.

"So, is this the special thing?" I asked as we waited for dessert.

"It's part of the special thing," Johnny said. "But you're going to have to wait for the rest."

The waiter brought over the dessert we ordered.

"Well good luck beating this because this is amazing," I said after taking a bite.

Once we finished eating, we got back in the car and headed downtown. After about a 10 minute drive he pulled into the parking lot of the ice skating rink I used to go to.

"You're taking me ice skating?" I asked.

"I thought it would be a nice way to end tonight," he said. "I remember you telling me stories about you coming here."

I gave him a quick kiss before getting out of the car.

When we got inside we traded our shoes for ice skates and made our way to the rink. I was the first to step out onto the ice. I was a bit shaky at first, but once I got my balance I was alright. I turned around to see Johnny watching me from the entrance.

"Aren't you coming?" I asked.

He hesitated for a second before stepping onto the ice. Thankfully I was able to move quick enough to catch him or he would have fallen.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I'm fine, just don't let go," he said.

"Have you ever been ice skating before?" I asked.

"No, not really," he said.

"Then why did you bring me ice skating?" I asked.

"Because I knew you liked it and I thought it would be easy," he said. "Plus it always seemed romantic in movies."

"That's really sweet," I said.

"Thanks but I don't know if I can do this," he said.

"Sure you can," I said. "You have me to help you."

We spent the next couple of hours at the rink but decided it was time to head home once we were both tired and cold. When we got back in the car I immediately turned on the heat.

"Was this a nice anniversary?" Johnny asked.

"I loved it," I said. "And I love you."

"I love you too," he said.
