Chapter 68

Alex...

The castle was struck with chaos when we returned. Maids and staff were scrambling to safety, soldiers were running to positions. I didn't even want to know how much of a disaster the village was right now. I just prayed all the people were safe. I hoped my Kingdom was safe, too, although, I'm sure it was since what the Darkness wanted was here.

It wanted us.

"Alexander, Aurelia! There you are! Thank goodness." Harry intercepted us, looking highly relieved at our return.

"Where is everyone?" Aurelia asked, panting from sprinting all the way here.

"The Queen has begun her journey to the safe house. Prince Phoenix and Princess Nixie are in the training room, getting the last of their preparations. They wish to assist you and the army in the battle." He started whisking us away in the direction of the training room. "We shall get you changed into proper battle attire and we shall meet them there."

I noticed Aurelia was tripping over her long gown as she was being dragged by the frantic Captain. I know getting changed was probably a smart idea. "What about William?" I asked.

"He will be meeting us in the training room."

"What about Evan and Lindsey Anne?" Aurelia huffed, looking afraid for our defenseless mortal friends.

Harry kept plowing forward through all the frazzled castle staff. "Your highnesses, please pick up the pace. Time is of the essence, and it is quickly running out." He blatantly ignored her question.

"Harry. Where are they?" She asked again, sounding much more demanding.

His face morphed into hesitance. "I do not know. They went for a walk in the forrest and have yet to return."

"They what?!" She shrieked. "If you didn't notice, there is a pitch black demon cloud whizzing towards us! We have to find them! They can't protect themselves from It."

She tried, and failed, to yank her arm from Harry's grasp so she could run the other way, but he was too strong for her as he continued charging through the halls. "Princess, I have soldiers searching for them. Right now, getting you prepared for the nearing battle takes precedence."

I glanced at her quickly, careful not to trip over my feet, and saw her eyes filling with tears. She looked terrified, and I'm not going to lie, I was terrified, too. We had been preparing for this battle for months, but it still felt too soon. I didn't feel ready. If we look at the grand scheme of things, just several months ago we were blissfully unaware of magic. We were living safely in New York, naive to our true selves. Sure, we were living a lie, but everything changed so fast.

And now it was time to actually face the evil we have been training to face.

All of the realm was depending on us. All because of some prophecy that said we were the way to victory. What if it was wrong? What if we died fighting an impossible battle?

I didn't have much time to dwell on it because we reached the training room. Nixie was sword fighting with William, and Phoenix was up in flames, rapidly throwing fire balls at various training dummies.

When they saw us enter the room, they stopped what they were doing immediately. Aurelia threw herself at her uncle, letting some of her tears release. "Phoen, I'm not ready." She whimpered quietly. I rubbed her back from beside her, trying to ignore my own anxieties.
