Chapter 72

Aurelia...
"I think she's waking up. Should we get the Queen?" A voice echoed to my right, sounding a lot like Nixie, and like she was standing at the end of a tunnel.
"Not yet. I presume she will want a minute alone with the Prince." Harry's voice sounded much closer and clearer.
"Alex. Where is he?" I groaned, fluttering my eyes open.
"Princess, finally." I caught Harry's gaze. Pride was bursting in his smile as he cupped my cheek. "You did it, as I knew you would."
"We won? It's gone?"
"Dead and gone." Phoenix proudly nudged my shoulder. "Look at my niece, so brave."
"What happened after I passed out? Where's Alex? Where's Evan and Lindsey Anne? Are they all okay?!" I started to feel panic coming on as I shot out the questions that slammed into me at once.
"Princess, calm down. They are alright." Harry pushed me back down so I was laying comfortably. "William is with Alexander, who just woke up this morning, and your human friends are being treated in the infirmary. They received only minor injuries."
"Alex woke up this morning? How long has it been? The fight was at dusk." I tried to pull my memory as best I could.
"You have both been out for two days. Highly expected after the level of power used from the both of you." He answered. "While Alexander awoke this morning, you clearly still needed some time to recover. The sun should be setting soon."
"Has he been in here yet?"
"No, he's been too weak. The Darkness drained him pretty bad." My heart clenched at Nixie's answer.
"Don't worry, I'm sure he's had enough time to gain his energy back." Phoenix quickly reassured. "I know the bloke has been pestering us about you all bloody day."
"I mean, can you blame me? I almost killed her."
All of our eyes shifted to the doorway to see Alex leaning up against Will. The tone behind his comment was joking, but I could see the pain in his face. He ignored everyone else in the room, and simply stared at my teary eyes.
"We have some things to discuss with Queen Alena and Queen Krystalyn, so we shall leave you two alone." Will said, helping Alex slowly walk over to my bed.
Once he had seated him in a chair next to me, everyone left us alone, making sure to quietly close the door behind him. I immediately burst into tears after it closed.
"Hey, don't cry." He wasted no time in crawling under the blankets and pulling me close to him. "It's okay."
"I hurt you." I blubbered.
"I hurt you, too. So let's just call each other even." His voice was strained, and I can tell it was bothering him as much as it was me.
I took the moment to examine his face. His skin was littered in small cuts from the thorns, and bruises covered him. I could also see the faint blue welts from where I had the vines wrapped tightly around his neck. His hand brushed against my own neck, and I could see the pain in his eyes as he stared at the choke marks.
"I'm so sorry." He whispered.
"I thought we were calling it even?"
"Still, it's hard to see the evidence."
