Chapter 11

Alex...

The first thing I noticed when I gained consciousness, is that it was loud. The sounds of car horns, sirens, talking and shouting filled my ears. It was so loud, yet also plain static noise. Upon opening my eyes, I realized it was the sounds of the city. Slowly blinking the fuzziness of sleep away, I noticed I was laying on a park bench in Central Park, and it was dark outside.

What the hell?

When did it become nighttime, and why the hell was I sleeping on a bench in the park? The last thing I remember is waking up at Aurelia's and-

Oh my God, Aurelia!

Where is she? Why am I not with her, keeping her safe?!

I pulled out my phone to see it was still the thirteenth, and nearing midnight. Seriously, what on earth happened today? Literally the entire day is blank in my mind.

Standing off the bench, and pacing around, I tried my hardest to think. I woke up this morning, saw Aurelia wasn't in bed with me, heard shouting downstairs, and then I went down to hear her saying she wanted to possibly break up. Now I'm here, with no idea how I got here, or where Aurelia is.

Ok, this is not good. Think, Alex, Think.

I tried calling Aurelia as I jogged my way out of the park, but got her voicemail three times in a row. I tried Evan and got the same result. Frustrated, I ran all the way to her house, and started banging on the door like a madman.

"Rel? Aurelia! Please, open the door!" Tears started blurring my vision as the fear of the unknown started to truly sink in. "Darlin', please, I need to know you're okay!"

Getting tired of the silence, I used the spare key she gave me, and let myself in. "Hello? Is anyone here?" I made my way into the kitchen since it was the last place I remember being.

"Aurel-" My words fell short when I passed the threshold, taking in the scene before me.

The table was pushed a few inches from it's original location, while one of the chairs was knocked on it's side, and another was pushed so it was leaning against the fallen one. There was a broken bowl on the floor, with spilled cereal soaking the floor.

What on earth happened here?

I ran back out of the house, and spun in slow circles, as if something on the buildings around me would give me some type of clue. I tugged at my hair, nearly in a full blown panic. The dim streetlights seemed extra eerie tonight.

"She is not here."

I embarrassingly screamed like a girl, and whipped around, falling on my bum in fright. The same girl I saw before was now hovering over me. She looked the same, except the blood seemed to have been washed away.

"Who are you?!" I screamed at her, feeling fear and frustration bubble in my veins.

She took a trembling step back, looking afraid of me, which frustrated me more. I should be scared of her, not the other way around.

"They took her to the healers." She blurted, ignoring my previous question, before she disappeared.

Whatever, she can piss off. I don't need a ghostly girl following me around, making me go insane.

At least she gave me something useful. Healers. That's got to be her weird old way of saying doctors.

Hospital.
