Chapter 13

Alex...

The entire walk to the hospital, my hands were shaking. I was so afraid that something bad would happen if I saw her again, that they would come back and take over me if I was near her.

"Evan, are you sure about this?" I asked once the elevator stopped on her floor. Apparently she was taken out of the ICU a little after she woke up.

"Alex, it's fine. I promise. I won't let anything happen." He already heard all my fears of being taken over again on the way here.

Her parents were in the waiting room, and I could see her father still looking angrily at me, while her mom calmed him down. Evan told me they now knew the details of what happened, but that doesn't mean her dad isn't going to be mad at me still.

When we reached her room, he opened the door and pushed me in before I could change my mind. I whipped around to try and push the door back open, panicking inside, when I heard her delicate voice.

"Alex?" I froze at the sweet sound.

Taking a deep breath, I turned around and met her bright eyes. "Aurelia."

"You came back." A small smile slowly crept up her face. My heart broke, knowing I'd be breaking her happiness soon.

"Only for a moment."

"I'm so sorry this happened. This is never what I meant to happen." It made me feel worse hearing her apologize to me.

"Aurelia, I came to say goodbye."

There was a pause after my abrupt statement. I could see the light dimming from her eyes as her face slowly crumpled. "Wh-what?"

"You were right. We're dangerous together."

She shook her head in disbelief. "N-no, I was wrong. We're meant for each other."

"We may be, but that doesn't mean we're meant to be together." I fought back my tears.

"Yes we are. We can get through this together." She argued.

"Look where we are, Aurelia! You're in the hospital because I hurt you." My voice rose. Not at her, but at the world.

"It wasn't you."

"It doesn't matter. I came here to say goodbye, and then after that I can't ever see you again."

"Alex, please." She cried.

"Please don't look at me like that." She looked as if I had slapped her, making me feel like the greatest evil in the universe.

"It doesn't have to be like this." She shook her head, refusing to let this go.

It frustrated me that these were all her words just a day ago. If only she had the same attitude and thoughts as before, she would still agree and not fight me.

"Please don't make this harder than it has to be." I whispered, wanting to get out of here.

"You can't give up on us. Not after everything." She whimpered.

"Just the other day, you were the one who thought we should break up!" I reminded her.

"I-I was confused. I didn't mean it. I was wrong. I can see that now."

"Well I can see clearly. We're better off at a distance."

"Alex, please don't leave me here. Don't make me fight this on my own."
