Chapter 49

Alex...

It's been days. Four days to be exact.

And she still has not woken up.

I was slowly dying inside, and didn't stop crying.

The thought had finally sunken into my mind that someone from my Kingdom tried to kill her, and they just might have succeeded.

"How are you feeling?" Phoenix said, strolling into the room. Over the past few days, everyone took shifts watching over her with me, since they'd have to kill me before I left this room.

"Like shit." I looked at him with saggy eyes, letting the crackle of the fire fill the room.

Her skin was still ice, but she was slowly getting warmer. I had to remind myself that it wasn't just regular ice, it was magic. It's going to take her much longer to de-thaw because of that.

"She's looking better." He commented. I just shrugged, not being able to see it. All I saw was her unconscious body, and pale closed eyes that wouldn't open up.

"She'll get through this. She's strong." He said, warming up his hands, and holding them against her cheeks. "Just like my brother."

"I can't live without her." I choked. "I can't."

"And you won't have to. She'll be okay."

With the help of the heating magic from his hands, her cheeks started to look a vibrant pink, full of heat. It made her look better, like she was simply sleeping.

"If anyone thinks I'm leaving her again, they're out of their damn minds."

"Don't worry, no one is expecting you to go anywhere." He said while standing up.

He walked around the bed, to all the roses that surrounded her. He lit each one on fire, as if it were a candle. "Just for a little extra heat." He responded, sitting back down.

"Won't they just burn up?"

"Magic." He smirked. "If anything, the petals will burn up a little, letting the scent fill the air. It should be calming to her."

"She does love the smell of roses." I replied, already able to smell it heavy in the air.

"Did you want to be alone for a little?" He asked respectfully.

"No, it's alright. I've been alone all morning. I don't want to be selfish. You guys love her, too."

"Thanks, man." He clapped a hand on my shoulder, looking grateful.

I took a moment to examine him. He was just a couple human years older than us, but so wise, just like William. It was hard to believe he grew up on Earth like we did. He definitely acted like a much better Prince than I was.

"Hey, Phoenix, can I ask you something?"

"Sure." He offered a kind smile.

"You grew up on Earth, right?" He nodded in answer. "So, how are you so much like the people here? Aurelia and I are so human, yet, you truly embrace the magical Prince that you are."

"Not all of us got lost, Alex." He chuckled. "My guard didn't lose me in the portal like the both of yours did."

"Good, so now I have another reason to give Will a hard time." I snorted.
