"Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do." Voltaire

"What are you doing here?"

Ellen raised a brow, before exchanging a cautious glance with Negan at Michonne's cold tone.

"Way to roll out the welcome wagon," Ellen muttered.

"Don't make me ask again."

"I'm returning your prisoner that I found lost in the woods. Very much alive and unharmed. I even fed him and changed his diaper."

Michonne scowled at Ellen, unamused, before looking over at Negan warily. "And how'd you get out?"

"I walked," Negan said with a grin.

Michonne looked between the two of them, a deep mistrusting frown on her lips.

"Everyone here is living on borrowed time. He's spent enough of that time rotting in a cage, don't you think?" Ellen finally said.

"It's what Rick wanted."

"In case you don't remember what happened that day on the bridge, you're the one calling the shots now. Rick is dead."

Ellen grunted, reeling back when the other woman suddenly punched her in the nose, knocking her to her knees for a second. Ellen groaned, before recovering, getting back up to glare at the woman.

Ellen grit her teeth, feeling her jaw make a popping sound. She scowled at the other woman, her blood beginning to boil, her muscles tensing, craving violence. Her hand slowly reached for her staff.

She clenched her fist into a ball, forcing herself to slow her breathing, allowing her a moment to collect herself. She met Negan's wide eyes for a brief moment, before averting her gaze to the ground.

Ellen wiped her lip free of any blood, before reluctantly throwing her staff onto the ground in front of them.

She was aware of the small crowd that was beginning to form around them.

"I'm not here to fight you," she finally said.

"You come in here, thinking that after a couple of years you can just walk around talking smack, acting like you own the place?" Michonne snapped. "You need to leave."

Ellen grit her teeth. "No. I need to talk to Eugene."

Michonne pulled her katana out of its sheath, threateningly holding it over her shoulder.

"You really gonna kill me in front of Judith?"

Michonne stopped, giving Ellen a cross look.

Judith stepped towards the women, before looking over at the baby in the car seat, and then up at Negan. She gave the man a look through raised eyes, peering out from the brim of her hat. "You came back," she said to the man. "Where'd you find him?"

"Hell's going on?" A voice growled, pushing through the small crowd of people.

Ellen froze when she saw Daryl, and the man made wordless eye contact with her.

Ellen evenly held his gaze, refusing to be the one to look away first, although her palms were beginning to feel clammy.

Daryl looked from her to Negan. "Shouldn't you be locked up?" he finally growled at the other man, stalking towards him.

Ellen glared at him, before stepping in between him and Negan.

Daryl looked down at her angrily and she continued to return the look as the two of them squared up.
