Chapter Six - Grading Our Exam of Death
Daily Life--------------------------------
Kei was...
Alive?
There was no other question about it. The guy I thought was dead was very much alive as he stood in front of me in the flesh, although I couldn't clearly see his face.
But...this doesn't make sense! I saw his dead body! He was covered in blood...So how?
I need to think of a reasonable explanation...
This is a morgue, right? What if he's a zombie or something? Or...what if he's the mastermind? Or some artificial intelligence going to kill me?
What am I thinking? Those are the opposite of reasonable!
As I was busy questioning the person before me's existence, I heard him chuckle. Then, Kei lifted his head so I could finally see his face under the cool blue lighting. Instead of asking if I was alright, he stared at my perplexed face. Then, he snickered, covering his mouth to suppress laughter. That ended in failure as he started laughing at me.
It wasn't even a small laugh too. Kei was cackling at me. Every time Kei stopped, he'd see my shocked face, he'd just start laughing again. Sometimes he'd just laugh louder midway through. He laughed so hard that in the end, he was grabbing his sides in pain, still chucking.
"Oh...oh god Kuro...You should see your face! You look like you've seen a ghost!" Kei said between pants.
I kind of have considering I thought the guy in front of me was dead for a few hours.
"Kuro, Kuro, Kuro..." he lifted his head and glanced at me, trying his best not to start laughing again. "You look so confused...Well, you must be really confused, huh? This is hilarious..."
He...certainly seems way more cheerful and relaxed now. What happened to him?
"O-Of course I'm confused!" I exclaimed. "I mean...You- I...You're dead! You're supposed to be dead! How...How are you standing in front of me?"
"You don't get it?" He let go of his sides and stood up straight. "Put two and two together. I faked my death."
"Faked?!?" I repeated "B-But...how? This doesn't make sense! You-"
Wait...being the mastermind would surely allow him to fake his death!
"You're the mastermind!" I pointed to him. "G-Get away from me!" I backed away, pushing my back against the door.
"...Seriously?" Kei sighed. "God, you must be really confused if you think that..."
"H-Huh?" I hesitantly lowered my accusing finger.
"I'm not the mastermind. I just used my brain to fake my death. In a way, I tricked the mastermind. Do you get it?" He explained, before chuckling again. "Damn, I thought you were experienced with the investigating stuff. You didn't even check for my pulse or my breathing. Or was my acting that good?"
Oh...Yeah, this really must be Kei if he's laughing at other people's mistakes while making himself look better.
"So you're not the mastermind..." I admitted my mistake. "B-But how? How did you fake your death? Didn't Arashi kill you? A-And why did she know?"
"I'm guessing Arashi's been executed by now if your here. Mei's dead too..." he nodded to himself. "Good. Then the plan so far has gone off without a hitch."
