Our podiums disappeared back into the ground as we all stepped off them, back onto the ground, our hearts frantically beating as we awaited for the result of the vote.
"Upupupu...Voting time has finished. Now, let's see the result!" Monokuma chuckled as a large screen revealed it self, coming to life showing us a screen with pictures of all 16 of us, Nanako's crossed out.
Suddenly, 14 red bars, each one representing one vote, appeared next to Okashi portrait. A larger picture of his face appeared and began flashing, showing us that he had been selected as the culprit. The screen turned black as Monokuma began speaking again.
"Now, who is the true culprit behind this case? Did you make the right choice, or the fatally wrong one?"
The screen turned in again and we saw all our faces in a circle, a giant arrow in the middle. It began spinning, slowly landing on Okashi's face, his name flashing on the screen as colourful confetti fell on top of us. But instead of being happy about keeping our lives or the confetti, we just stood there with our head hung low in sadness.
"Looks like all of you were right! It's true, Okashi Mimu, the Ultimate Memer is the culprit behind this murder! Good job, you get to live! I mean, even if he wasn't the culprit, he still would've gotten executed for not voting!" Monokuma cheered.
"So it really was him..." I slowly mumbled under my breath. I was surprised that my deductions were correct, yet I felt bad as that meant another one of us was about to die.
"I'm sure you all have questions to ask, so I'll give you some time before the execution!" Monokuma happily said.
"Of course I have questions! Why the hell did ya do it?" Tama yelled.
"You have to at least tell us Okashi," Arashi said.
"I-I killed her...because I needed to get out of here. I have a duty, a priority to do in the outside world," Okashi slowly stated.
"A duty so important that you had to kill another...?" Ryuto asked.
"You don't understand! My ultimate talent means that my only purpose in life is to make memes and make people happy. Every time I'd see someone laugh at one of my memes, I would feel like was important to the world, like it was what I was born to do. So being stuck here... forced to kill each other. Where's the joy in that? I had to leave to see those smiles again, to feel important again, and to not just fade into the background..." Okashi explained, his voice covered with fear and hints of sadness as he slowly took off his mask to reveal his light cyan eyes.
To some extent, I agreed with Okashi. I was stuck with my ultimate talent and all that was expected from me was the violin. I never had the choice to do what i truly wanted, since all I was known for was violin. However, seeing people smile and cry tears of joy at my performances at least made me enjoy my talent...
"I have an older sister..." Okashi began again, "She always cared about my memes. Whenever I made a new one, her smile would always be there, along with her laugh. I guess I just wanted to see her smile again..."
A wave of guilt hit me. I'd never thought that I would feel sorry for a killer, but know hearing their motives, it made me realise that people's lives were different in the outside world. Unlike me, an only child who just had some rich family and some friends, other people had much more important lives and duties than me. All I do is just play violin...
"I'm sorry Okashi..." I said, kneeling down to his height and hugging him. He stood there in shock, before hugging me back. I could feel his wet, warm tears on my shoulder. "...I wish things were different, I wish no one had to die. I wish this never happened at all," I stated.
