I walked myself to the basement after deciding to spend some time with Haru. Some aspects of gardening had already seemed interesting to me and getting to learn a bit about Haru would be a nice bonus.
Looking into the room from the door, I saw the Ultimate Gardener on their knees, tending to some plants.
I don't think they've noticed me...
"Um," I began to wave sheepishly. "Hi,"
"Hm?" They turned to the door to see me standing there. "Oh! I didn't see you there, "
"I hope I'm not bothering you or anything, " I said as they brushed the dirt off their knees.
"No, no! It's fine! Abrupt visits are always welcome, " they ushered me in as I stepped in and closed the door. "So, what brings you here?"
"No reason in particular...I was just bored, so I thought I would hang out with you for a while. Is that inconvenient for you?" I asked.
"Not at all!" Haru smiled. "maybe I can practice something on you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I did say I was going to braid Ichika's hair. I've already chosen some flowers for her but I do need to brush up on my braiding skills, " They explained. "Do you mind being my guinea pig?"
Spend time with Haru?
-
> - Yes <
- No
-"Why not? It sounds fun, " I shrugged as Haru beamed.
"Great! Thank you so much," They pointed to a spot on the floor. "Now, please take a seat as I chose some flowers for your hair,"
I did as I was told and carefully sat on the floor, trying my best to avoid getting any dirt on my skirt. Glancing at Haru, I noticed they were deep in thought over which flowers to choose. After a minute or two, they nodded to themselves and brought over some plants.
"Are hydrangeas, camellias, and freesias sound alright for you?" They inquired as they sat behind me and placed the flowers beside them.
I tried to sound like I knew exactly what those were. "They sound perfect,"
"Lovely," they grabbed a large handful of my hair. "I'm sorry if the end product looks bad. I haven't done this in a while,"
"Ok..."
I felt my hair get separated and begin to get braided as Haru fiddled with my hair. Their soft fingers guided and twisted my hair in various directions. I haven't had someone do my hair like this since I was 9 where my mom would do it for me. But right now, I feel oddly relaxed.
"Hm...A camellia here? No...A hydrangea would be better," They mumbled to themselves, deciding what plant to pick.
I took a look into the reflection of one of the many glass walls in the lab and widened my eyes. "Wow, that's really good so far,"
"Really? Thank you...I'm not even halfway done yet," they let out a small laugh.
"Where did you learn how to do this?" I asked.
"I learned most of this when I helped at the local florist in my town,"
"Oh, maybe you could tell me more about that as you do my hair?" I suggested.
