Eleven

Junior waec timetable was already pasted, she was super concerned how it was going to go down. She felt her reading system wasn't going to come through for her. And she didn't know how to tell her mum she was scared she would fail the exam.

But her mum always knew her fears before she voiced them so she had joined her to plan her study times and even studied with her whenever she was free and up to it.

A shadow stood over her, making her look up. Without the shadow she would have looked up as her class suddenly went quiet.. She was trying to get used to Snr Daniel coming to look for her in her class.

He never sent anybody, always came in person. And his visits were so irregular and impromptu that she couldn't establish a routine with him. Right now he was looking at the math problem she was tackling. The thing was giving her a headache.

'Come with your books', she had ten seconds to do as he said or he'd be at the corridor linking both schools before long.

So she picked up her jotter and textbook and followed him immediately. She saw Shola lock her school bag and locker for her. As they took a turn and climbed the stairs rather than his usual route she stopped to look at him.

'Stand any longer and you'll get that punishment you're looking for', he didn't stop but his words made her run up the stairs to catch up with him.

To her surprise he opened a door and waited for her to catch up and enter before closing it. It was the senior library.

Was he trying to get her killed?!

She gave him the questioning look but he gave a slight smile before extending a hand to her, which she placed hers in. He then took her to a very secluded spot where his bag was and a bottle of water. She sat when he gestured for her to seat and took the bottle of water he offered.

After drinking the water he offered her a packet of chips which she also noted was his favorite and she politely declined. He cocked his head to the side still holding it out for her. It was his usual routine, give her water offer her a snack and wait till she was done to then say or do whatever he called her for.

Quietly she chewed and opened the book to look at the math problem. Soon she was done with the chips, she looked up to find him reading. He looked super cute in his reading glasses and she'd swallow her tongue whole before saying such a thing to him.

'Have you made progress on the math problem?', he asked lifting his eyes to hers. She was thankful for her dark skin as the burning in her cheeks would he been revealed as deep blushes. Though she looked flushed.

She shook her head not trusting her voice. He turned the jotter she was using, scanned it before pointing out a few calculation errors that were responsible for her not reaching the designated  answer.

Soon she was back at it and before long she started dozing off. She was more scared that he'd do something to her but she lost the battle to sleep after a while.

She amused him he concluded.

At least she did one hour today. Carefully he took her jotter and graded what she was doing. The weather was getting chilly so he draped his jacket that was resting on a seat next to him over her shoulders and decided to let her sleep for a bit before he woke her up to continue.

Kasper walked in shortly, spotted him. He saw the sleeping girl and sat next to Daniel. While the various waecs were happening their termly exams were around the corner.

'Dude, how far have you gone with this economics. If i read it anymore i'll start speaking it as a language',

'I'm almost done with it. Its the chemistry teacher in school?', he asked. Though he had no plans of leaving Esther there.

'No, I'm not sure. She wasn't in the staff room when i was coming up here',

'Okay',

'Your wife has slept and left you?', Daniel only raised a brow at the comment before returning to the book his was reading.

'Anyway, i wan crash small. Find me at the other end of when you're leaving',

'Okay', and he was left quietly. His watched beeped, he sat up and called Esther.

'Esther', she opened her eyes at the sound of her name. Recognized her environment, subconsciously held the jacket on her shoulders to prevent it from falling.

'Do you need to use the restroom?', he asked watching her.

She shook her head no and they both went back to their individual studies.
