She hadn't said a word since she sat with him. Luckily the tears had stopped, but he knew she was having a headache.

She just sat coiled into herself. She started shaking a while ago, he made her wear his sweater. Now he was trying to get her to take the tablet of Diclofenac that Kasper brought from the nurse's office.

'Open your mouth', she opened her eyes instead. Looked at the pill, scrunched her nose and firmed her lips.

She was just too adorable.

'It's Diclofenac, and it's just one tablet. I'll let you sleep after that, I promise', she still didn't open up.

'Come on, you don't want to get sick again right? The crying you've done today is enough to set in fever. Which equals more drugs at home, just take this one', she just stared at the pill without saying anything.

'Please', she reluctantly took the pill and gulped the water he gave her.

'My mouth is bitter', she grumbled after a minute.

'Did you take your drugs before leaving the house?', he asked as he pulled her into his arms.

She went willingly meaning she was too tired to fight him.

He rubbed her back as her breathing evened out. Soon he too closed his eyes but not in sleep. The librarian was a very nosey woman, and top notch gossip. So he needed to be careful.

Even though he had warned her severely to stay away from him and his affairs when she sparked a rumor about his father in school, he didn't want to give her undue ammunition.

After a while he lay her properly on the couch and took a seat close by. His books were in front of him but he had a lot on his mind.

Starting a fight with the SS2 wasn't entirely a smart idea cause in months he'd graduate. And the last thing he needed was to place a target on her back.

They would make her life a living hell. He'd seen it happen to a student before. His older brother was a terror to juniors, the day he graduated was the beginning of that boy's problems in school.

All the people he had ever punished took it out on the boy. He had to change schools.

He needed to curb this before it bore fruits.

She woke up sweaty, and her head was no longer banging. She realized she was on the library couch, and senior Daniel wasn't there with her.

Immediately she stood up and started walking out of the place but stopped when Daniel walked back in.

'Leaving?',

'I didn't see you when I woke up so..', she trailed off.

He gave her a small smile before turning her back to the couch.

'I won't leave you here by yourself under any guise. Keep that in mind', he brushed his fingers across her cheek.

She flushed immediately.

'Your head doesn't feel warm and you're sweating. Both good signs, do you think you can eat something?', already reaching for his bag.

She nodded expecting snacks but he brought out a food warmer instead.

Huh?

Opening it he brought out the flask and gave it to her.

'Is this not your lunch?',

'Yes, I had not plans to eat it though', she gave her a spoon and she kept looking at him.

'Well, eat up', he picked up a book and began reading.

'I can't eat it',

'Why?',

'It's your food, what would you eat?',

'Just eat Esther', he went back to his book.

She opened the flask and was mildly surprised.

Rice with fish sauce, fried plantain and boiled egg.

'This is too much',

'Eat what you can then, let me see what she packed today?', she tilted the flask in his direction. He smiled.

'Mum', was all he said before returning to his book.

She really tried to eat a little of everything, but after the first sampling she was tired.

She covered the flask and relaxed into the couch.

'Eat the egg', she nodded but didn't move. She suddenly felt exhausted.

After a while she ate half of the egg, some more rice and returned the flask to him. Looking at the clock near them it was closing hours.

'Snr Daniel the final bell will soon go off',

He looked at the clock and asked her to follow him out.

She didn't even know how on earth her teacher's had not yet punished her for missing classes.

She hated being flogged, remembering it was the math teacher that had Friday last period she stopped walking when they got close to the class.

'What is it?',

'We're having maths now',

'Okay'. He let her wait while he walked to the class. Stood at the door, waited for the teacher's permission to enter.

A while later he came out with her school bag and they took the longer route to the gate where the Hilux was parked.

'Is this not uncle Ugo's official car?' she'd been meaning to ask.

'Yes, but he has another. I just borrow this once in a while'.

As he drove he noticed someone looking intently at the car window and recognized the person as his father's wife.

Not bothering himself he drove by her to ensure she had a clearer view.

He was ready to bet that he'll get a visit from one of them sooner or later.
