""Why wish upon a star when you can pray to the one who made it?"'

He sat at the veranda as was usual for his Saturday mornings when he had nothing to do.
Ever since he came back from his one year trip to the barracks his father had not visited, his mother was as happy as she could be. So he only raised a brow when he saw his father's wife walk through the gate.
He never understood why his mum agreed to live within the same area code as his abusive father, but what baffled him most were unexpected and unwanted visits from the man's wife.
She walked up to him and he still didn't say a word to her. She sneered as usual and tried to walk by him into the house.
His mum came in from vigil at church not too long ago and he would be damned if he let this ogbanje disrupt her sleep.
He blocked her way and stared her dead in the eyes.
'My friend will you get out of the way and let me pass!', she tried to intimidate him. But she was in for a surprise.
'My mum is sleeping and will not be disturbed until she has rested properly',
'Ehhhheeee! Is it me you're talking to?? Look at this no good buffoon talking to me like I'm his mate or the mate of that useless mother of yours! Eh? Wonders o! They shall never end!!.. Atarom gi! I don't blame you!!! It's not your fault', he zoned out of the conversation.
Even when neighbors gathered and she told them whatever she wanted he didn't respond.
She wasn't going to enter the house, simple as that.
'Its because I don't have a male child, that's why Nnamdi permits this idiocy!!! Anu mpam!!',
Shortly afterwards she left and he resumed his seat, only standing up to ensure his mum didn't wake up from the madness and that her reachable fan was still on.
He stood at the door and watched her sleep. He knew this would not be the end of the madness that he was given as a family, but this time around he would fight back.
He would hit back, and inflict pain. Pain for all the pains that had been inflicted.
Good thing that she was handling most of his needs. But he knew, deep down that he needed to remove her from under his father's thumb.

'Obere oche! Boss man de fine you!', Shola yelled from their class corridor.
Today she had chosen to sit at the back of the class to read, it was uncharacteristically quiet.
'I'm coming!', she said back. She had been reading more under Snr Daniel's supervision, so she wanted to know if she could do more on her own when he wasn't around the corner.
But apparently he wouldn't let that happen.
Packing her books she saw Kech looking at her.
He had been doing that all through the term. But now he was being more creepy than usual. She often wondered what he was up to but chose life instead of asking him.
She stood up to find Daniel coming towards her.
'Good afternoon Snr Daniel's, she immediately greeted.
'Hi, can we walk and talk?', at her nod they moved towards Kech's direction.
'Can we go another way?', she asked timidly.
'Why?',
'He makes me uncomfortable',
'Is he bothering you?', He asked, looking her in the eyes.
'Umm no, but with the way he's always staring I don't want to be unnecessarily close or in the same vicinity with him', she explained.
'Okay', he said and walked the other way.
He didn't want to believe it when Kasper told him that Kech was having her watched. He didn't care to know what he wanted to achieve by this, but he better be not bother her.
Blood will flow.
As simple as that, no questions asked.
