'Give me a minute', he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

'Guy how far..... Why does your sister think she can touch my stuff and get away with it?... My girl called me and she answered the call! As what? Then the message she promised to pass along she didn't.... Warn her, if she comes near anything of mine again she won't like me.... I'm just telling you early, warn her',

Esther watched the whole interaction, fighting the smile that was creeping onto her face.

'What's amusing you right now?', he gave her a look that made her start laughing.

'Guy howfar? Since when? I thought pidgin was a forbidden language to you!', she started laughing.

'You're cute', her laughing gradually reduced.

'I truly miss us Babe, tell me everything. Leave nothing out',

'I have to study Dee',

'I'll help you, just like old times. Please',

'Okay', she got up to get some drinks then they proceeded to catch up on the aspects of their lives that they've missed out on.

Her phone rang, she glanced at the caller id before rolling her eyes and answering.

'Hello.... Yea good evening.... No I'm not free... Because I'm not free.... Okay then good bye', she cut the call and faced Daniel.

'Who is that?'

With a full blown grin she said, 'Your competition',

'You wouldn't dare!', Esther started laughing and told him about the boy Valentine she'd met during one of the teens program in church and they had each other's number cause they worked in the same unit during the program.

'The boy doesn't understand the word no. Like I do not even find you appealing, on any grounds yet he's under the illusion that just because we both are in church I'll date him. I don pass that mumu stage na-'

'When did all this happen?'

'The weeks we weren't talking', she shrugged and continued sipping her drink.

'Anyone else I should know about?',

'No, don't get your panties in a twist. The lifetime that we get tired of each other we'll let each other know', it was his turn to fight a smile.

'Do you still dance?', Daniel asked.

'Oh yes I do, and my lifelong dream of winning my mom in a dance off has finally come to pass. I signed up for a dance competition in church though. It's the weekend after my jamb. My last exam for a while'

'I'll be there. Come let's dance a little',

'Dee I'm tired, been reading since I left church after the first service',

'Come on, please', she let him pull her into his arms.

'My brother could walk in on us-',

'No he won't. I asked him, nicely'.

'How much did you pay him?', she narrowed her eyes at him.

'Just two k-',

'Na wa, so my brother can sell me for two k? Okay o', Daniel laughed as he selected a song she didn't know.

'How do I dance to what I don't know?'

'Relax and follow my lead', she did. Not paying attention to the song but enjoying the moment.

****

'Have you greeted mummy yet?',

'Of course, she told me where to find you. But let me say good night to her before I leave. One more thing though',

Esther looked up, 'What?'.

He motioned her forward, she leaned over a bit wondering what he was up to. He kissed her.

Soon they were lost in the moment, but common sense soon returned and Esther pulled back.

'Mum could see us',

'Yea, but I'm not sorry', Esther giggled.

'Me neither, let's go in alright?',

'Yea',

After the proper greetings, Esther walked him out we're he threw caution to the wind and pulled her in for another kiss.

'I'll see you tomorrow',

She could only nod in response, he gave her a peck before entering the car and driving off.

Seeing her mum waiting for her in the living room wasn't surprising at all.

'Nne I'll just say it, I'm your mother. I hope in your own interest and in the interest of my peace of mind that you're not having sex with Daniel-',

'Jesus mummy ewww! No, I'm not like that! You raised me for God's sake!-',

'I just needed to be sure we were on the same page. Reduce or stop  the kissing to prevent temptations. You're not yet eighteen. I won't throw you out if you end up pregnant but it's better to prevent it',

'Yes ma, I've heard you. Nothing more than the kissing has happened mummy. We're very careful',

'You better be, you're too young to be answering parents. I'm too young to be a grandmother',

'Okay mummy. Can I go?',

'Eh go to your room',

'Okay ma, good night mummy',

'Rahu ofuma nwa m',

She stopped by Chima's room.

'Oya drop one k before I go and tell mummy that you've been taking money from Daniel so that he can spend uninterrupted time with me',

'Sike! I dare you to go, you think I'm scared. Go na, let's see who's in bigger trouble this night', he gloated as he turned to face the game he was playing when she entered.

'Is that what you said? Okay o, no more money from Daniel to your I de go piss for inside that garri now now', she turned and walked out of the room.

Soon her door was opened and he dropped five hundred naira on her desk next to her book.

'I'm not giving you anything more than this o, I've said my own', she smiled as she took the money from him.

'Smart choice my boy!',

'I'll collect more the next time I see Daniel',

'If you see Daniel. Oya bye bye, let me continue with me call',

Daniel on the other end of the call was laughing wholeheartedly at the exchange. Sibling interactions were always amusing to watch.
