Thirty nine

Somehow they were alone in a classroom. They had walked with other students for a while them she was here alone with him.

'Please come for the after party', he asked while looking her in the eyes.

'Umm, I really can't go partying. Mummy will kill -',

'I just need you there for an hour, two max. Please',

'I'll ask mum and get back to you',

'Thank you, I'll miss seeing you almost everyday', he pulled her in for a hug that she returned.

'Yea, soon you'll be an undergraduate',

'Yea', he released her enough to look at her face as though committing it to memory.

'I'll see you in a few hours okay?',

'Okay'.

The after party turned out to be an early evening event and Esther had been granted permission on the guise that she's home by 7pm latest.

She had changed into a pair of high waist  skinny jeans and a turtle neck crop top. Her canvas clad feet tapped to the beat of the song being played but she had no idea what was playing.

She turned just in time to see Daniel and Kasper walk in. Both had taken off their jackets, ties were off, sleeves were folded up.

Their eyes locked in seconds. Daniel wasted no time in walking up to her.

'You look wow', she immediately felt heat on her cheeks.

'Thank you. You don't look bad either',

'I'll take it. Come, let me get you some refreshments', he took her to the make shift bar and got soft drinks for both of them.

After a while of aimless chatter Daniel suggested they dance. She gave him a look, 'In the last three years I've known you I've never seen you dance, what's bringing this on?'.

'Just join me for the next song',

International love began playing over the speakers, the already charged up atmosphere got even more charged up. She let him pull her to him by the waist and decided to follow whatever he had in mind.

Some spins later she finally let lose and let the music take over. She laughed as he tried some moves then she schooled him on the appropriate way to go.

Soon enough by popular demand she was given space on the dance floor where she thanked God her skinny jeans was made from a stretchy material.

Feeling like she'd danced enough for one evening she checked her wrist watch and saw that it was 6:15pm. She'd need to be outta here soon if she wanted to live and tell the tale of this party.

'Daniel, I need to start going', Daniel dropped the drink he was holding and excused himself from the person he was talking to.

'Let me walk you out', they both left the hall and took a corridor that shortened the journey to the gates. She noticed Daniel looking up and down the corridor like her was looking for something.

'What are you looking for?',

'Nothing, hold on a minute', she stopped and looked at him. Her breathe caught in her throat when he walked to her, leaving almost no space between them.

His eyes moved from her lips to her eyes. Like three times, she was giddy.

'May I?', he whispered. She could only nod, the nod wasn't done before he sealed her lips with his.

She had never been kissed in her entire life but this felt magical.

She tried to copy his moves, the next thing she knew she was pulled flush against him with her feet dangling in the air. She was reminded of their height difference.

When they pulled away Daniel still didn't set her down, instead he rested his head on hers.

'You have no idea for how long I've wanted to do that. Wow',

She kept quiet as she didn't know what to say to that.

'You okay?', she nodded again.

'You sure? Use your words baby, I don't believe for one second that my kiss rendered you speechless-',

'You wish!',

'Thats my girl. So, I also have been wanting to ask you something too',

'Okay?',

'Will you be my girlfriend, officially this time around. No pretences, for real',

'What?',

'Wrong answer, come on babe. Will you be my girlfriend?',

'Yes', she blotted out before she lost her nerve.

'Thank God! For a moment there I thought you'd say no',

'Well I didn't...',

'So girlfriend, to celebrate this day I want to give you something. Here', he took off his necklace and put it on her.

'Let me get you home before your mum thinks my hide is good for smoking',

She was dumbfounded. He never took off that necklace for as long as she could remember. Now he was giving it to her?

'Thank you', she said as they got to the gate.

'I'll see you around babe', he gave her a quick kiss on the lips before opening the gate for her to pass first. Then stopped a bike to take her home.
