'Esther!....Esther!.... Essstthhheerr!!!',

'Maaaaaa!', she turning the starch for today's menu. She couldn't leave it halfway.

'Mummy let me finish I'll come answer you!',

'ke ihe mege ebe ahu?',

'Starch!',

'Okay, hurry up!',

She concentrated and was thankful that the distraction didn't affect the output of the starch.

After packing it appropriately she washed her hand and came to find out why she was being called.

'Mummy you called me',

'Eh, I'm just seeing on the news that waec result is out. Hope you have everything required to check for your result',

Her heart literally stopped. She was very sure that her mother wanted to kill her. How could she say such a thing with such ease? Like her future wasn't dependent on that result being perfect.

'Mummy, wait first. Which news again?', her mum showed her the her phone. She exited the page and saw more than three sites were carrying the news.

'Okay, I'll check later let me finish with what I'm doing in the kitchen', she ran off before any more questions could follow.

Dear Lord Jesus

Dear Lord Jesus

Dear Lord Jesus

She chanted for a while, started praying in tongues under her breathe as she packed the resting area of the kitchen. She was nervous, scared even to go check the results.

Yes she'd studied hard, written well but this was WAEC!!!

Okay, take a deep breathe. Call Daniel. Yes, I'll call Daniel.

He didn't pick up when she called, she tried again and didn't get him.

She went back to pacing with her phone in her hand. It rang and she nearly dropped it. She saw Shola's name.

'Babe!'

'My heart has exited my body for the past thirty minutes, I don't know how I'm still alive!!', Esther had to laugh. Trust Shola to give absurd explanations, but she could totally relate.

'I get, Omo mumci just called me. De talk about am as if say na JSS1 test we de talk about. Omo my head wan explode laidis!'

'You you get luck, popsi don go cyber cafe to go check am. If en nur kee me today, just Sabi say I pass am well',

'It is well o!! It'll end in praise for all of us o! Hei God!!',

It was Shola's turn to start laughing. After a good laugh they both cut the calls and Esther decided to go home and harvest her waec details scratch card from where she kept them.

It didn't take her two minutes to find everything she needed. Like the result was in a hurry to be found.

While praying she logged into the waec website from her phone and put in the required details. Network began fluctuating, she nearly screamed in frustration.

Finally it loaded, holding her breathe she scrolled down the page to where her result was.

She screamed!

She started jumping and screaming! She quickly screenshot the result and ran back to the shop to go show her mum.

'Mummy mummy mummy!',

'O gini oooo!! Gwam gwam gwam!',

'Mummy see!',she started crying as her mum knelt down in the kitchen and started singing,

What can I say! Unto the Lord!

All I have to say, is thank you Lord!!

'My pikin don pass waec o!!! Satan shame unto you o!! Thank you Jesus!!!', before she could stop her she was out of the kitchen into the restaurant telling her customers that her child has passed her exams.

Esther was soon paraded around the shop to receive a lot of congratulations and some cash gifts. She was just happy to have passed her exams. Five As and five B's.

She couldn't explain it.

After all the drama that senior secondary school brought, the bullying that followed. The emotional drama with Daniel.

Her classmates and their wahala not excluded. She had passed, with much more than she expected.

She retreated to the kitchen to call Shola who screamed as well, she too had three As, five B's and two C's. Her father didn't kill her so all was well.

Turning to a secluded area she knelt down and sang songs of worship. Thanking God for this miracle.

When she was done, she stood up but continued to sing under her breathe. Her phone vibrated, indicating a message. She saw it was from Daniel.

Just saw your missed call, let me call you after class. Heard waec is already out, have you checked yet?
Let's talk later.

She didn't respond, she smiled and continued singing as she worked. Soon enough Uncle Ugo and his colleagues came in. Esther's mum was already filling him in on her waec result.

'Congratulations Esther',

'Thank you sir, good evening sir',

'So how are we celebrating?',

'Argh, sir nothing o. I'm very happy that I passed, and that's all that counts for me'.

'Taa, mummy Esther call one of your girls let them go buy cake and chi exotic for this girl',

'Argh, oga it's not necessary-',

'Are you the one buying it? Call the girl, after she has gone then we'll order',

Favor was called, as soon as she left they ordered their meals as they said.

Before they finished eating Favor came back with the cake and two big sized chi exotic drinks.

'Oya come and carry your cake madam. Congratulations again',

'Thank you so much sir! Thank you!',

They left and Esther told Shola about the cake, she appeared in ten minutes making Esther's mum laugh.

'Shola they will use cake and sell you o!',

'No problem ma, geh bring the knife na make we chop this thing!',

'No be you get cake o!'

'That one concern you! Oya oya!',

The cake was cut and shared among themselves with the rest sent home.
