-with James and Steven, after you left-

"So, will you get her out of jail again?" James looks out of the window and sees Y/N walking off. His gaze wanders over her body.
For a trouble maker she's really beautiful. So much unused potential. I bet with the right man she would make a beautiful bride.

Steven looks up from the comic book and notices his best friend's look.
Why does he keep watching her leave every time? They both made very clear that they hate each other, yet he looks at her like... He admires her? When she doesn't even give him a little friendly smile?
"I guess. Why does she keep getting in trouble?" He looks worried, not able to understand his little sister. Or his best friend.

James turns away from the window and faces Steven. "Maybe she likes being imprisoned? Or she likes one of the police men?" He starts grinning again, very well aware that Steven doesn't like to talk about Y/N like that.

They start laughing and carry on with their day. Steven reading the comic book, James making jokes and telling him about the weirdest love letters he gets.

-meanwhile with you-

You head into the usual pub, the only one around who voluntarily serves women, and sit down at a table with several other women.
"Sorry I'm late. My brother got into a fight. Again." You shake your head and sigh.

They look at you and give you sweet smiles, showing you that everything's fine.

"Your brother is Steven Rogers, right?" One of them looks quite excited.

Does she like my brother? They would be a cute couple. Maybe I should set them up?

You nod. "Yes, that's him. So where are we at?" Your gaze falls on a woman with a clip board.

She sighs. "Men still want to see us back at home again, doing 'womens chores' like we did before the war."

Everyone grumbles. The situation seems to be the same with every man one of you meets.

"We can add that my father keeps telling me to find a husband. He says if I don't find one he'll choose for me." You lean back in the chair and sigh.

Who would he choose anyways? As if he knows any guy my age. On the other hand he's probably more interested in marrying me to someone than me actually being happy.

"Honestly, I admire you for your strength. You just keep saying no, right?" Everyone looks at you.

A smile forms on your face.
"It's not like I don't want to marry. More that my father wants me to. I'm making my own decisions but he keeps telling me what I should and shouldn't do. That makes me want to not do what he tells me." You cross your hands and look down on them.

A waiter approaches your table.
"Can I get you something to drink?"
His face clearly shows how much he dislikes that his boss wants him to serve a table full of women.

Everyone orders their usual, mostly tea and water. The waiter writes everything down on his notebook, forces a fake smile and leaves again.

The woman with the clip board clears her throat. "Okay ladies, let's focus. Did any of you had luck finding work?"

The whole round shakes their heads and looks down. One says what every one is thinking.
"They keep telling me that I'm not able to do 'a mans work'."

You scoff. "You get that too? What do they think women did when men were at war?"

Do men even think? My brother sure does. He seems to be the only man who uses his brain.

The meeting continues until a man walks up to the table. He smiles into the round, confident that he'll get what he wants.
"Excuse us, girls, but we need the table."

We? You and who? Your imaginary friends? I only heard your footsteps.

Knowing how disrespectful society sees what you are going to do now, you keep looking at the women sitting at the table, not giving him a single gaze.
"Sure. We'll be done in a few minutes."
