-Y/Ns pov-
"Good morning, Agent Carter. I have a bit of news. Meeting after my training with Agent Sousa?"
Peggy chuckles at me trying to be as formal as possible.
"And your mission?"My eyes widen and I turn around, heading back to where I came from.
"How about a quick hallway chat?""Okay, shoot."
She follows me without any problem."Short version: yesterday I went into a bar, I met James again, we went outside, I screamed at him, he kissed me. We drove to mothers cabin, we talked, we made out."
At this point I show her some of the hickeys he left.
"We fell asleep, I had a break down, talked with him, now I'm here."
I stop in front of our chef's office."Definitely need more details. Keep me up to date with your mission."
Now Peggy turns around as my fist hits the door."Come in, Agent Rogers."
A deep breath should release some of the pressure but it does nothing. Fast I step into the dark office. Light from a few lamps fill the room barely enough to do paperwork. The desk is full of paper, everything seems like it's a big mess but everyone knows Chief Dooley has his own system. This room fits the antique store's vibe more than the others.
"Good morning, sir.""Please, sit down."
A pen points at the chairs in front of the desk.I close the door and sit down as he asked me to.
"Agent Carter handed me your file, representing the progress you made. You trainend very hard and got better by day. That are the kind of results I like to see."
He pauses making room for my answer."Thank you, Chief."
I can hear my heart pounding, that's how nervous I am. Over the time I really grew into this job. It involves paperwork, fighting, dancing, investigations and all of that in secret. Loosing it is not an option."As you know I assigned you a mission. But when I went through your file I changed my opinion. You are ready to work hard to bring back results. Instead of sending you to the anticipated mission you will go with Agent Carter to a military training camp and help Colonel Chester Phillips finding men for Doctor Erskine."
Dooley hands me a new file in exchange for the old one."Thank you for your trust, sir."
Respectfully you get up, say your goodbyes and leave again.Peggy already waits for you outside of the office.
"Are you familiar with Dr. Erskine's work?"A few weeks ago she would've frightend me, asking questions out of nowhere, but these times are over.
"Not yet. How much time do I have?""Here, you can read it on our way down."
She hands me a file labeled 'Project Rebirth'."Down? So we are heading for the lab."
I open the file and glance through the papers, dodging every possible danger. Peggy brings us down and I close the files as the doors from the elevator open.A man approaches us. White hair, glasses, lab coat. Through the weeks of training I got good enough to spot the right person just from a few things. Friendly I smile at him and hold out my hand to greet him.
"Doctor Erskine I suppose? It's a pleasure meeting you.""Agent Rogers, right?"
He shakes my hand and looks at the files I'm holding, his accent and reaction confirm who he is.
"Are you familiar-""With the important facts. Took me longer than I expected. May I ask, what kind of person are you looking for?"
I go straight to the facts. If I do this as fast as possible I might leave an impression."He should be strong, a good man. The machine turns everything from the inside to the outside."
The Doctor points at the file about the project.
"Just like I discribed here."Strong? A good man?
"Doctor, call me crazy but I think I know the perfect candidate. Now his body isn't that strong. Actually he can't be a soldier because of his body. But his mind and heart are stronger than most mens muscles. His name is Steven Grant Rogers."
The words just blurt out of my mouth and every lab employee turns to look at me.
