Thankful I press his hand and look back at James. In a quick movement I gesture him to sit down, which he does.
"Now... Uhm... You were right."
Before I continue I take a deep breath.
"I don't know what you've been through. But you don't know what I've been through either. And I wished for a long time for you to be there. You weren't. The sad truth is that it wasn't anyone's fault."

James lowers his gaze and nods.
"I'm sorry."

Gosh, I just want to lean over the table and press my lips on his. But I can't, I have Liam. I love Liam.

Steven clears his throat.
"How are things going with Liam?"
As if he can read my mind he looks at me.

I draw my attention to my brother.
"Perfect. He cares a lot about me and I care a lot about him."
Thinking about Liam makes me smile.

"You care about a lot of people, Y/N. What makes him so special to you?"
James doesn't sound hurt, just... cold.

"Liam isn't a soldier or an Agent, not a scientist, just a simple teacher at a high school. After all that happened to me I thought I bring problems into everyones life. But Liam made me feel different. Everytime I gave Charlie, the neighbor's kid, a ride to school there was that teacher waiting outside of the building with two cups in his hands. I don't know how many times he bought two coffees for himself but one day I found the courage to go up to him. I asked him why he bought two cups and on our first date he told me that sometimes there is that beautiful woman that gives one of his students a ride and never asked for anything in return. He wanted to return something to that woman so he gave me one of the cups along with his number. We started out as him teaching me the stuff they teach in todays school system because I told him that I would love to help the kid out. From that on it didn't take long for him to ask me out onto a date. Sometimes he mentioned that I'm a fast learner but he never asked why. In general he didn't ask anything about my past instead he told me that I could tell him if I wanted to. And even though I thought I bring problems into everyones life Liam made me feel different. That he laughed at my jokes and explained everyday things to me without thinking about why I don't know that stuff gave me security. Nobody could ever take your place, James. But Liam never tried to replace anyone. We simply fell in love with each other. That's why he's so special to me. He cares about who I am now and where I want to be in the future. And he does that in his own ordinary way."

Neither of the two men know how to answer to what I just said and for a bit of time we just sit there in silence.

"How long are you together now?"
My brother gives me another smile. I think he slowly adjusts to the fact that I truly love Liam.

"Four years."
I keep looking at James who avoids making eye contact with me.
"So, uh, Tony throws a party tonight. Should I come?"
My gaze falls back on Steven.

"It would be nice to spend time with you again, Y/N. Just don't slam anyone on a table, okay?"

We both start laughing and I nodge his shoulder.
"If everyone behaves there won't be any need to do that. Can I bring someone? Emma would give everything to attend one of Tony Starks famous partys."

"I thought you would invite Liam?"
Now James sounds a bit depressed.

"Liam is gonna come anyways, that's for sure. He's not my plus one, he got invited too, through me."
Softly I stroke James' hand.
"We're good, right?"

As he nods I notice how cold his hand actually is. Confused I look at Steven and gesture to his best friend's hand.
"Don't worry, he just lost his arm, everythings fine."

Even more confused I pull James' left arm towards me and pull up his sleeve. A dark grey metal arm hides underneath it and concerned I look up to James who pulls the sleeve back down. A few memories from *that* night come back into my mind but I quickly shove them away.

Can someone explain to me why this ff is so damn loved but "Succubus" isn't? I mean damn Alex is amazing but almost nobody reads it :(
