After Y/N and James decided it will be the house, they signed the contract. Luckily they got Tony to help them out with the money; he said it's for his dad. Honestly, Howard would be proud of the man his son became.
Over the next month they started renovating, Bucky and Steve taking most work from Y/Ns hands. Although she hated being treated like she can't handle herself, she's thankful. The pregnancy weakened her and carrying heavy stuff didn't help with that. Lucky for her and Bucky, they didn't even have to renovate a lot, just a few different colors here and there. Though, they decided on refurbishing the bathrooms and the kitchen too, so they were able to move in sooner rather than later.

Since then, everything started to move quickly. Braxton-Hicks contractions started to pain Y/N, a sign to see a doctor as she read before, they should be relatively painless. Turned out, getting a baby from a super soldier wasn't going to be easy. As if Tony didn't already pay enough, he bought a whole library as well, working out plans with James. The Stark Library & Bookstore, their project, got its own manager with Bucky as its owner. Y/N and himself both wanted him to stop fighting, the rest of the team never told them but they wanted him to retire, too. Sometimes it was Natasha, sometimes Steve, sometimes everyone else, slowly persuading Tony to help Barnes' retirement plans.
The Stark Library & Bookstore opened with quite the party, ending in a thirteen hour birth session.

All that happened two and a half years ago. Taylor, Y/N wanted to give their child a genderneutral name, is incredibly smart for their age, also pretty strong.
The front door opens and Y/N can hear 40s music from the living room. She smiles to herself as she watches Bucky sway to the music. He's leaning down, two little feet on top of his, hands gently holding their two years old's.

Just when he's about to turn, the kid gazes through his legs and gasps.
"Mommy!"
Tiny body slipping through James' grip and running up to Y/N.

She laughs and lifts Taylor up.
"Hey, little one."
Pecking kisses all over their face.

"I missed you, mommy!"
Strong, little arms wrap around Y/Ns neck.

Bucky stopped dancing and crosses his arms in front of his chest. Quietly watching the loving exchange between his wife -no, the person he wants to be his wife- and their kid. Brown hair as dark as his with something between ocean and sky blue eyes.

"She's gonna be a mommy's girl, isn't she?"
He lets out a light chuckle and approaches them.

"Well, I was away for a whole week, I deserve it."

They exchange a quick kiss before Y/N carries Taylor and her duffel bag with her upstairs. Although she missed James, an awful lot, she's always worried about her little one. The h/c haired woman tends to treasure the child whenever she returns from a mission. Actually it's no wonder, that kid is what she wanted to be able to have but then got the result that she most likely won't. Yet, here they are, holding onto each other.

"Also,"
Y/N suspects James to follow her, which he did.
"we talked about this a dozen times, Jay. We're raising her genderneutral. She's gonna be a mommy's child."

"Mommy's child,"
he says in union with her.
"Will I get my hugs and kisses?"

"Not yet, I didn't have time to shower over the week."

"Y/N-"

"Don't Y/N me, Jay."

Letting out a deep sigh, he leans forward and whispers something into Taylor's ear.

The girl giggles.
"Mommy, can I go play with Pety today?"

The woman unpacks her duffel bag, throwing everything into the laundry or putting the stuff back in its place.
"Which Pety, little one?"

She looks at her dad who imates a spider for her.
"The funny one!"

Y/N turns around and arches an eyebrow at Bucky.
"No, he's busy today. I already set a play date for tomorrow."
She places Taylor on the ground.
"Go and dance with daddy, Tay. Mommy needs to shower."

Once again, their child giggles. She takes James' hand and tries her best to pull him out of the master bedroom, downstairs and back into the living room.

While Taylor keeps the super soldier busy, hugging his legs and standing on his feet as he sways to the music, Y/N showers the past week off. Flashbacks from the fights haunting here, the nights alone on the ground because they had to lay low. Missions are a double-edged sword for her; Y/N loves to kick bad guys' asses but on the other hand, she's afraid she might not come home. So every time she does, her first instinct is to not get too attached to being home, she might have to leave tomorrow.

In the compound, Y/Ns distant behaviour is a topic too.

Tony whistles and points at the dinner table.
"Quick FYI, everyone. Capsicle, little Witch, you too."

"Can it wait until tomorrow? We all need to shower and I'm tired."
Steve sighs and reads Tony's facial expression.
"It can't, alright."
He sits down at the table along with the rest of the team.

Stark pulls up footage from the last mission, another advantage from the new Iron Man suits.
"I think we all noticed it by now, Y/N is getting-"
Pausing to search for the right word.
"-sloppy?"

They all nod in agreement and the brunet shows a video of Y/N, fighting. Steve's jaw clenches and the rest lower their gazes.

"Capsicle, you don't happen to know if your sister is trying to kill herself?"
