Drowsy mornings.
Drowsy mornings when the sun is warm, the sky bright and cloudless. For a moment, chaos can simply be forgotten and exchanged for peace of mind. and I've never really been the peaceful type because as it happensm I've never really been able to find true peace of mind.
Well,
that is until recently.
I looked down to my side once more where Valerie lay in a half awake, half asleep state, her warm cheek pressed to my chest and her arm placed over my torso haphazardly. Her morning voice a gentle murmur as she said "i just didn't realise that when you become a doctor you do all these kind of fancy things."
I stroked her hair and said "neither did i. but years ago when i was your age it was never like this. I remember there was a few charity events here or there but you've had more of those in the last year than i did through out my whole residency."
she laughed and said "i think i am running out of clothes at this point. re-wearing past clothes is great and all but i do like to make a lasting impression."
i rolled my eyes with a smile and said "what else could i expect? but you will look beautiful either way."
"i appreciate that...i suppose i just get more nervous the more upper class people I'm surrounded by. I'm from Ann arbour Michigan, have this really messy accent and sometimes my English phrases slips, especially when im nervous....if it was just our hospital id be a bit more comfortable, you know?"
i nodded and held her closer "i know. but your small city girl moxie and your very charming accent, if you ask me, is what makes you so interesting and easy to talk to. trust me, if you didn't have an accent and weren't from ann arbour they'd still be..."
"snooty?"
i laughed and i said "that was...not the term i was thinking of, but sure."
she looked up to me and her eyes widened "wait what does that mean? does it mean what i think it means?"
i raised my brow and said "what do you think it means?"
"um, disapproving? unfriendly to people different to yourself?"
i smiled and nodded "yes. more to people of a different social class so you used the perfect word i suppose."
