Today is my first day as chief of medicine at Edenbrook hospital.
It... truly feels like all eyes are on me.
Today is also the first day I'm not the sole leader of the diagnostics team, and from here on out my influence in that department will dwindle down...until it's Valerie's time to take over, that is..
In a concluding statement, I can say I'm happy, I'm nervous, I'm excited- amd more than anything...ready.
I had spent the morning organising the new office, before getting to working my rounds myself. The sun had risen over Boston, but the sky remained a light orange haze, only some morning traffic being heard from down town, flowing through the window that was only open a crack.
I placed the last thing on my desk that I wanted. The only thing I had been waiting to put...and that's a small framed photograph of Valerie.
...colleagues have given me photo frames on the past as gifts for whatever occasion, and those same colleagues had frames on there desks with pictures of their husbands, wives, children or partners...and I had never had the opportunity to use one at work until now.
Since this is a private office, I can actually use the frame for the person I love..
I smiled softly as I placed it down, before folding the box and putting It safely on top of one of the cabinets.
There was a kock at the door, and as I turned around I said "come in."
And to my delight, V herself walked in.
I smiled as she smiled in return "Good Morning chief."
"Good morning doctor valentine."
Raising to cups of coffee and a brow she said "I come bearing gifts. Since you haven't been able to get your coffee maker up here yet."
"It would appear then that you and the coffee are both my gifts this morning, hm?"
She laughed as she handed it to me and said "I don't like to brag..."
"Feel free to brag in my presence, valentine."
A warm blush reached her cheeks, and I leaned against the desk, placing the coffee down besides me and drawing her close between my legs.
