Valentine
The early shift.
One of the only good thing about the early shift, is pleasantly getting a long day to yourself once you've finished- that is if you aren't too exhausted and complete ran off your feet to enjoy it.
Which I usually am, insomnia is no friend.
Darkness still enveloped the city of Boston, the stars dotting the clear skies, dawn not so far away, and Junes heat making a gorgeous summer night that i could bask in for hours...
I lay in bed on top of the covers at home, gazing out towards the floor length windows, just the small lamp on in the corner emitting its orange glow...and a warmth settling right in my stomach....
"What are you thinking?"
I looked to where E was standing in the doorway of the bathroom drying his hair, and i smiled.
"Lots and lots of things. but...i suppose how I'm lucky our shifts matched up today. but even then...you're working longer than i am..."
nodding he said "i know. it's a little difficult..."
"i don't mind particularly. its okay..." i smiled softly
he returned it in the same manner, before coming over and saying "you know...administration means i have much desk work to do in the office. and when i'm not i'm on short rounds....the office is private. has a...fairly nice couch for sleeping on..."
i giggled and opened up my arms "not as nice as the diagnostics office one."
he chuckled as he sat down and pulled me into his arms "no. but I hope that wont take away from my offer to have you stay with me after your shift?"
"mmm there's nowhere else id rather be." i smiled against his warm chest.
he kissed the top of my head and said "good. i'm always here Valerie....i need you to know i'm not suddenly going to disappear now i'm chief."
"...i was a little worried..."I trailed my fingers across his arm..
"dont be. things are working out so far, aren't they?"
"mmm..."
"mmm. and they will continue that way. you know my priority is you. work is important...but so are you. so very important. so don't you worry about me disappearing. okay?"
