AUTHORS NOTE: Ethan couldn't be happier getting spend time with the person he loves the most in the world, and while chief duties are time consuming, he's making the time to be there for Valerie in every which way. The team has a new patient who asks for help after coughing up blood and loosing weight...but will differences in the team stand in the way of the diagnosis? and a blast from the past returns for E and V, when an ex patient asks to see them...and make them face the consequences of a decision that they had almost forgotten about. Ethan

There's always comfort that can be found in the night.

Which, sounds peculiar, considering the fears that can be associated with the night.

But those fears also mean that the beauty can be over looked.

the quiet. the twinkling street lights that are in competition with the stars on who can shine the brightest, the moon smiling and following us wherever we go...the gentle hum of wildlife in the country, or the light buzz of those awake in the city, driving who knows were. 

Ironically the night is when we can feel most alive.

This evening however, my thoughts are the opposite. sitting at my desk, in near perfect darkness apart from my laptop with the dim screen on, i finished my last spreadsheet, and sighed before taking my glasses off and running my hand down my face...

and looking over to the couch, where Valerie lay curled up a sleep.

i smiled to my self, only able to see a splay of messy curls, her face turned towards the back of the seat, and my coat placed on top of her as she stirred a little. Tonight is a night where i had to stay late to get a few things finished, and now Valerie and I are living together full time, sadly its going to mean she'll need to spend a few hours sleeping in here. Well, i did insist she could go home, but she didnt want to leave me alone....

I got up and took my tie all the way off, and unbuttoned my shirt a bit, before going over to her side, crouching down and stroking her hair. "Sweetheart..."

she shuffled in her sleep, her light breathing gentle, and soft as he nose twitched.

I chuckled softly to myself  and checked the time.

it really is late...

i should check my emails one last time, but i think getting home and into bed is more important right now...

I went over and turned my computer off completely, closed the office window, and took my coat from valerie, before placing it on the back of my chair with my tie. in turn, I went back to her and picked her up in my arms bridal style, light as a feather.

she stirred again this time and i kissed her forehead as she murmured "Ethan?"

"hello sleepy head. ready to go home?"
