2 AM.
2AM, and I'd rather be in bed, taking every work worry with me and not having to think about a single thing until the moment i wake up-
But instead, I'm walking up the stairwell to go to bed much later than I would have liked. and in the process, I had left my fiancee alone. While she insisted she stayed with me at Edenbrook, and realistically i would want nothing more for that to be the case, i'd rather not be selfish, and instead have her at home, comfortable after she has had a long enough day herself.
None of the less, Im happy with being chief, even if it causes some inconvenience from time to time. In fact- I surprisingly get to see more of Valerie than before my position as chief.... and I think thats because of the fact its such and administrative role, i'm in my office, and when im not, I can be with her on her rounds, i can supervise other doctors....
But, I do miss her in the evenings. so right now, as i make my way to the door, even through a tired trudge, there,s something of a spring in my step to get to see her and fall asleep next her....
I opened the door quietly and stepped inside, the apartment shrouded in the cloak of darkness, just few flickers of lights from the street below glaring up on to the windows. I sighed, leaning against the door to close it, and shrugged off my jacket, taking off my shoes, before starting on my tie and heading to the bedroom....
and-
To my surprise... Valerie, was some what awake. her computer in front of her, as she lay curled up at the top end of the bed, half asleep, half awake and wrapped up in a big blanket...her curls loose and fallling over her shoulders...
she looked up and her eyes widened a little more as she smiled "Ethan..."
"Hello gorgeous girl... what you up to?"
she sat up and said "i was waiting for you...I missed you."
i smiled softly and took off my tie, hanging it on the back of the corner chair and said "I missed you too....I have to say, i'm...glad you stayed up. Although i should also reprimand it since you should be catching some sleep but..."
she held out her arms, her blanket galling from her shoulders as she said "but you really, really missed me?"
i went on over and pulled her into my arms as i settled against the pillows, kissing her crown "i reallyreally missed you, yes."
