AUTHORS NOTE: Ethan and Valerie could really use a stroke of luck right now...and they might just get it. After a rush from the airport to the hospital, E and V race to save a patients life- and the consequences are rather generous. Meanwhile, James and the rest of the group are going through an eventful journey themselves with multiple mishaps....this is 'twelve hours' and I hope you enjoy! :)

Is this story suitable to read during Ramadan?: This chapter is MOSTLY PG however there is one scene that's a little tactile but nothing NSFW :)

Ethan

Cheraphobia

It's the belief where an individual believes that if something good happens to them, or if life is going well, that a bad event is destined to immediately follow it.

And imp almost sure at this point that Valerie and I are on the verge of developing such a mindset.

there's that imagery of a person pushing a bicycle up a hill, its hard and strenuous, but once they reach the top, they're at the peak. they can rest and take pleasure in the moment. but eventually, that pleasure ends when the person has to find their way back down the hill. and as the saying goes...everything goes downhill from there, just to repeat itself once more.

so on our downwards spiral, just like the person speeding down the hill, Valerie and I made our own speed down hill to get back to Edenbrook after it became clear that...

a misdiagnosis had been made.

the kind that certainly is life threatening and imp not sure if anyone other  than us would have picked up on it...

I drummed my fingers against the steering wheel, brow creased with worry as V said "Ethan...its not your fault."

"I...i know. well at least i think i know...I just- how could i have been so blind?" i sighed

"this is another moment where hindsight takes over, people with the keenest eye on the most amount of minutes on their hands could have missed that. i read the scan too, i should have noticed but i didnt..."

as the traffic started to flow again, i took her hand and squeezed it as i said "its not your fault either. lets just hope we can get there in time before it does turn into something we can regret..."

she nodded and squeezed my hand once more, before i put both hands back on the steering and stepped hard on the gas...

After not hesitating to create a messy parking job, we rushed across the car park and made our way into the atrium as I asked "we were on the third floor, right?"

"third, room 342-"

I'm glad she has such a great memory

we made our way imp the stairs, making sure to keep an eye out for him during the rush and adrenaline, his name? i couldn't even recall, the day was moving by so fast-
