"I couldn't do it, Selaphiel." They glance over at me, twisting their body over to look at me underneath the sheets. Ever since that event it's just been haunting me over and over, her face. She was just willing to accept final death just like that. It didn't make sense.
"Do what?" They ask innocently. I sit on the edge of the bed not making a move just staring down at the floor below me. Fuck, I was an idiot. Tears brim my eyes threatening to leak out but I refuse to let them.
"Rue. She's still free." Selaphiel gasps while leaning forward trying to keep the sheets on their body covered.
The tension grows in the room as silence surrounds us. It was entirely my fault, it was the perfect moment and I had her right there, alone. But then something flashed through my mind and I couldn't do it. I felt pity for her.
"Cass, you know if He finds out, we're done." Selaphiel breathes out right next to my neck. "We're already on our second strike."
"You don't think I know that already!" I stand up from the bed and start pacing the floor as a million thoughts ran through my mind at a high speed. We were so screwed, and it was all my fault.
The tears finally threaten to spill and do so. The white liquid staining my face glistening in the fluorescent light. A hand reaches over wiping away the tears as I take in a deep slow breathe, I had to calm down. We just had to get to her before He finds out. Easy.
"We need to make a plan, Sel." Walking over to our shared messenger desk I scramble for a piece of paper followed by a working pen. "Before He figures it out, we need to do this."
"Ooh, a mission!" They scramble over as well, waddling over with the sheet still wrapped around their body. "What shall we name it?"
"Project Lover."
