It's strange to think that that one night, a year and a half ago had brought me so much happiness. We had decided to take things slow and even though we knew each other as friends we didn't know anything about each other as more than that.In fact our first date was one of the most nerve wracking experiences since I dated Riley.
I had dropped the twins off at Averleighs. Spencer was off work for the weekend and she had asked if she could keep them so he could spend some time with them.
"You look beautiful Britt." Spencer had smiled as I set down the two car seats in the living room.
"Thanks, erm .. have you heard from ..." I began.
"No, but he talked to Anna last week and said he was okay." He informed me.
"Okay." I pursed my lips.
"We would have told him about them, if you had wanted us to." He smiled.
"I know, I just hate he's missing out, but I need to explain it to him."
"Hey Britt, have fun tonight. I haven't seen you smile or get this dressed up since your prom! You deserve to be happy."
"Thanks uncle Spence." I smiled before heading home to wait for Kyle.
He picked me up around seven and took me to the fanciest restaurant he could find. I couldn't help but feel underdressed in my Ross halter neck dress, when everyone else was clearly in some brand name designer fabric.
Still the conversation was light and flirty as we ordered some food and I sipped on my Bahama mama.
There was a candle placed in the middle of the white table cloth that flickered a golden glow onto Kyles face as I looked at him with clearer eyes, eyes that finally accepted that he was here and wasn't leaving me.
"Favorite color?" He asked.
"Pink yours?"
"Green, favorite food?"
"Sushi, no wait Indian, actually I just love food." I laughed
"Ill keep that in mind. What about hobbies?" He smirked as our food arrived and we continued talking as we ate.
"Well other than making bottles and changing diapers, I used to like hiking and music and reading."
"That really cool, there's actually this trail I've been dying to hike, maybe you would want to go? We could buy those sling things and carry the twins on our backs." He bounced his eyebrows taking my hand in his.
I rolled my eyes and laughed before lacing our fingers together beside the candle between us. "I would love that."
The date came to a nice end as he paid for our food and drove me home. If I was honest I didn't want it to end as he walked me to the front door.
"I'll be back in the morning for breakfast." He smiled as his hand cradled my face.
"The kids are actually spending the night at Riley's parents, so you don't need to come." I reminded him.
"No, but I want to." His thumb brushed my cheek as I looked into his eyes and watched as the intensity in them changed.
I knew what was coming as he glanced at my lips and I caught myself doing the same to him. Slowly his head moved closer to mine as I felt myself being drawn to him.
I couldn't help but whisper against his lips before they touched "Kyle, the kids can't know." I took a deep breath with my eyes closed as I felt him watching me. "We have to take this slow, I can't risk hurting them if this doesn't work out."
