"Hello, love," Peggy walked into our shared room and kissed me on the cheek. "Hey," I mumbled, trying to work on a mission report.

"You've been working non-stop all day, darling. Take a break," she told me, wrapping her arms around my waist. I gently unwrapped her arms from around me and pressed a soft kiss to her lips, "sorry, baby. I can't," I mumbled.

She kissed the top of my head and I rested my head on her chest, pulling my laptop over so I could continue working. I heard Peggy's breathing even out and I knew she was asleep.

If I was being honest, I wasn't planning on sleeping any time soon. I keep getting nightmares from the war, and going in the ice. I've been meaning to go to Steve's support group but I've been so busy with work.

Being an Avenger is difficult to say the least, but it's always worth it in the end. It was very difficult to adjust to life in the 21st century but I had my girlfriend Peggy, my brother Steve and his boyfriend Bucky to experience this all with.

After a few hours, Peggy began to wake up, "darling, are you still working? It's 1am for God's sake!" I just nodded and continued working.

After a few minutes, Peggy began to tug on my sleeve, "baby, you're going to overwork yourself." I bit my lip nervously, "I'll be fine, go back to sleep, baby." Peggy sat up, "nightmares?"

I sighed, "how did you know?" She took my hands in her own, "Steve and Bucky both have nightmares, it just makes sense that you might get them too." A tear slipped down my face, "Pegs, I'm scared." She wiped away the tear with her thumb and placed her hand on my cheek. I leaned into her touch.

"Everything will be okay, darling. I'm here for you if you have a nightmare," she smiled softly, kissing my cheek. I sighed and closed over my laptop, settling into her embrace. I lay my head on her chest and she sang to me as I fell asleep.

I awoke to the sound of gunshots, and I instinctively reached out for Peggy. I was extremely alarmed when I couldn't feel her near me and my eyes darted around the room looking for her.

I ran out the room, grabbing the gun we keep in the plant pot next to the door. Steve was laying on the floor, motionless. I knelt down next to his body and shook his shoulders, tears streaming down my face, "Steve, no. Steve, wake up. Don't leave me, don't leave Bucky."

I heard people running towards me and I broke out into a run, going as fast as my legs could take me. I found a small cupboard and locked myself inside of it, holding my gun in front of my chest.

I took a small step back and felt something cold behind me. Peggy's body was propped up behind me, I placed a hand on her face, sobs wracking through my entire body, her skin was cold and pale, her lips slightly blue. I fell to my knees, crying heavily. The door behind me opened and I felt a searing pain through my chest.

I shot up in bed, sweating and crying. Peggy pulled me closer to her, "shh, baby. It's okay, we're safe, it was just a dream." I sobbed into her chest, holding her as close to me as possible.

There was a knock at the door, "is everything alright in there?" my brother Steve's concerned voice asked. I jumped out of Peggy's embrace and into Steve's arms. I cried and he held me close to him, gently stroking his fingers through my hair.

I looked up at him, "promise me you'll never die." He smiled softly, "I'm gonna have to go someday." My bottom lip trembled and I pulled him in for another hug, "after me. Please just don't die before me."

I laced my fingers with Bucky's, keeping my other hand on Steve's chest. He gently squeezed my hand, reassuring me that he was there and safe. We stayed like that for a while, and then Steve and Bucky went back to bed. I lay down next to Peggy, clutching onto her shirt tightly.

"I'm not going anywhere, darling," she told me. She pressed a soft kiss to my lips as we slowly drifted off to sleep.
