Question: Is it acceptable in Islam to use a condom to sex our legal wife.
Answer: Na'am. It may be permissible if he fulfils these conditions as stated by the scholars:
1. It should not be used because of the fear of poverty.
2. It should be because of (a genuine reason such as) child spacing. So that the newborn will suck the breast for 2 years.
3. There should be a mutual agreement between the couple because the enjoyment in it cannot be up to the enjoyment in the sex without it.
4. There should be a certainty that the condom will not wear off (during sex) to the extent of covering the ovary of the wife, as the Medical Doctors said. There are some condoms that can wear off if it is not good enough.
If these conditions are fulfilled, there is nothing bad in it, because the Companions (May the please of Allah be upon them) used to do 'Azl (coitus interruptus); the scholars said, once the Companions were doing this (one can also use a condom), if the stated conditions are fulfilled, there is nothing bad in it.
'Azl is the situation whereby the husband withdraws his penis (before the ejaculation), and he ejaculates outside (the vagina)
They (i.e the scholars) said: If we see something which can be inside the woman, but it will collect the sperm, and after sex, it will be removed. There is no harm in it.
And they should also be mindful of the stated conditions. Allaah knows best.
