Music for the Chapter: Angry Too by Lola Blanc
I have always been someone who is eager to learn new things. Like Nani said, it was a really good thing to be able to learn things that I never learned before. I knew some verses of Vedas here and there that Nana taught us.
"That is your lesson for today." He told me.
"I think the tv shows don't do enough justice to Gurukuls," I admitted.
"How would one know what it is like unless they visit it or meet someone who has been there." I smiled at his answer.
The Gurukul's heads were the Saptarishis. The Saptarishis of the Current Manvantara: Kashyapa, Atri, Vashista, Angira, Gautama, Vishwamitra and Bharadwaja. They were like the principals of the Gurukul in a way of saying. In the next Manavantara, the next Saptarishis will head the Gurukul.
The Gurukul had a well-set system. The decisions of Gurukul were taken by all the Maharishi, Gurus, Rishika and Bramhavadinis together. They made up a council. It was headed by the Saptarishis. After the majority of vote, the decision would be finalized. Like the decision to pass on the knowledge of how to create astras was given to a student only after every single Rishi, Rishika and Guru had agreed to it. Hence, it wasn't until the student had impressed every single one that they could be given that knowledge.
Every month, they would often have a debate. It was organized and all the Rishis and Rishikas would get together for the event of debate. Each debate had a topic. Like a Shark Tank for Philosophy.
He took me ahead towards the arena. Several students were there. The arena were different. Some of them I recognized as Kalaripayattu's kalaris. Some of them were wrestling arenas. Then archery arenas. I saw some students training with urumis, flexible blades. Some of them using daggers.
What was common was their ferocity. As if they were bred to fight.
"For every Devansh, the art of warfare is eminent to their survival."
He didn't even give in a lot of effort and I seem to be putting too much effort. I should have been better. Even a black belt in Karate seemed useless here. I seemed like an amateur who just begun to learn self-defence.
"Three things, Sonakshi. Speed, strength and agility. You do have that stamina to keep going for a long time but you have to work on your agility." He tapped on my feet with his staff. "Battle skills are different from general self-defence you have learnt. In there, you have to have strong feet on the ground. Battle needs you to move quickly. If you don't follow the speed of the opponent, you would end up severely injured or dead. Have a firm footing but just enough to have you on your feet. You need to be easy with your footing so you can make quick movements and not end up twisting you foot mid-battle."
I tried to do as he suggested.
"You can do better. If you hold back yourself strongly, you can't go ahead. A fight needs you to have a blank mind. The fight is on instinct."
