Music for the Chapter: Dhunki by Neha Bhasin from Mere Brother Ki Dulhan
I packed a travelling backpack. Three pairs of shoes, five to six pairs of outfit sets. First Aid. Some mosquito repellent. A few knives here and there. I always have a bag of hygiene products. A torchlight. Another small pack of essentials. Batteries. Several other things that I would need. Also, an i-pod is necessary. I put it with earplugs.
I saw Bhaiya standing by the door.
"Do you think I'll manage it?" I asked him.
"I know you will do your best." He assured me. He outstretched his palm for me. A way of making a promise to someone. "Do you believe me?" I nodded a yes. "Then make me a promise. Have the same faith in yourself. You come out as a bit rude and over-confident but I know that is a fake mask you wear. On the inside you doubt yourself. You don't see yourself as the heroic kind and that is why you constantly doubt if you can do it. I want you to promise me that you will never give up on yourself. It is alright if you fail at times, Alaknanda, but to lose hope and faith in yourself is a very dangerous thing to do. If ever you feel like you're losing faith in your own ability to do anything..." He put the locket in my hands. "... Just once, for just a while, have faith in him. The whole universe works on hope. When the darkness is bleak and you seem to have lost your sight, you still need to have faith. Regardless of whatever you think, Narayan has always answered to those in need of him. He's the protector of this entire creation. He will always be. You're a part of the creation. Just for once have faith in him and call him."
I put my hand over his palm, giving him my word. He smiled. He took out the rudraksha bracelet around his wrist and tied it around my wrist.
"Some people are born special. People like them often change the destiny of others. If they take the right path, they change it for the good. When they go down the negative path, they change it for the worse. All those who had taken the negative path required the Gods themselves to intervene. Imagine that kind of power you have to hold that Trideva themselves, have to come on the earth just to defeat you. Ravana. Hiranyaksha. Hiranyakashyap. Jalandhar. Andhaka. Naraka. Bana. All these were great people. They have done great things. The debate is never whether they are great or not. Yet, they fell into the trap of negativity and caused a lot of trouble to others. Great doesn't mean they're right. They go down the wrong path and often cause their own downfall. Great Kings to their own people but would terrorize others. You and Sona are also special in that way because you two are flesh and blood of the Gods. That is why Indra fears that you will also go down the same path and destroy his place in Swarga. Those in swarga constantly worry about their place being taken away in a flicker of fingers. Now, if you decide to take his throne, it wouldn't be impossible. That is why he fears you."
"I don't want his throne or anything, bhaiya."
He smiled.
"I know that. But Indra is grasped by fear. Several 1000s of years ago, Narayan had five sons from Panchasundari. Panchasundari are the five nymphs who are called the daughters of the seas. They were sisters to Lakshmi maa. Like her, they too emerged out of the oceans during Samudra Manthan. They came across Narayan and fell in love with him. Then soon found out that Narayan had already given the place of his ardhangini to Devi Lakshmi. Even though she was their sister, they didn't let go of their wish to want to own Narayan."
