Alone together
Encased in our own separate shells
Our outer layers nestled closely
Together
But ultimately separate
Rooms inside rooms
As isolated versions of reality
Will we ever truly touch one another?
We are souls that own bodies
But are these vehicles
Of flesh
And bone
Enough?
As our burning ghosts
Eat them away
From the inside out
As they scream
And bleed
And collapse underneath the weight
Of a thousand lifetimes
Concentrated into one energy source
Maybe that's why
Our life expectancy gets shorter
And shorter
As we advance
As we progress into oblivion
Because the burden of
A million light years worth
Of recycled souls
Is simply too much for a
Machine
As primal as a body
To bear
