An anomaly was found in the pasture that night
A miracle
A newborn lamb is brought into this world
Without a face
Open and vulnerable, the soft hay is stained with her mother's afterbirth and the warm discharge dripping from where the lamb's eyes, nose, and mouth should be.
With broken bleets gurgling bubbles through open cavities, she wobbles on her four frail legs
Her peers, the other sheep on the pasture, kneel beside her to let her know she is safe
The little lamb is loved
She stains their pearly white coats a brilliant red
Her exposed blood vessels and tendons glisten in the evening moonlightThe little lamb is beautiful
