Why do we let colors decide anything,
as if a color is a person,
as if the color red could get offended if we didn't take its opinion into account
or the color purple could feel depressed for being ignored,
as if the color green could feel oppressed
or the color blue could be treated unfairly,
as if the color yellow could advocate for equal opportunities
or the color orange could feel threatened and unsafe?
It's all predetermined, of course-
hardwired into our brains, but not by nature.
People choose the meanings,
and society teaches us those meanings.
Pink is for girls,
blue is for boys.
White is good and pure,
black is dirty and evil.
Rainbows are only for queers,
no one else can enjoy them.
And good luck if you have a different opinion.
With all sincerity, I wish you good luck:
good luck if your skin is too dark or even too light,
good luck if you decide to speak up
because you see white and gold
or because you see blue and black,
good luck if the color you wear isn't the color everyone likes,
good luck if you happen to like rainbows or the color pink;
because believe me, you'll need all the luck you can get.
Why let colors decide anything?
Why not let people decide?
Why not let people act as they want
and be judged on the way they act
instead of the color they like
or the color they see
or the color of their skin?
Colors are not people;
stop treating them as if they have a say in any person's life.
