A child's eyes
see much more
than anyone else's.
They see things
for what they are
instead of
what they want to see.
They recognize
the monsters
and they are rightfully afraid.
And adults brush it off
and pretend everything's fine
and lead the child
to believe so.
Age is but a number,
and children are wise beyond their years.
A child's ears
hear everything
but they do not realize
that people often say things they don't mean
and withhold the truth.
And what adults brush off
or take as a joke,
a child believes it
to be true.
And what we don't realize is
even if they don't understand
every single word
they
can
still
get
hurt.
