"Do you believe in aliens?"
I shrugged
and I said
"I'm not sure."
"How can you not be sure?"
"The universe
is too big
for nothing
to be out there.
But I have no proof that there is,
so I'm not sure."
He scoffed at me.
"I hate it when people
can't decide.
You either believe
or you don't."
"Do you believe in ghosts?"
I countered.
He shrugged
and he said
"I don't know."
"How can you not know?
You either do
or you don't."
"I guess I never thought about it.
But I have no proof that they do or don't exist."
I smiled
and I said
"Now
you do."
Then
he was alone
in the dark
and I was
gone.
