Let me remind you:
it is not always what has been said that truly hurts;
sometimes the things that hurt the most are the things that are left unsaid.
Often it's the empty spaces
filled with silence
that cut deep.
Silence speaks louder than words.
Silence haunts us all,
following us through every stage of our life
and forcing itself upon us when we need our voices most.
Silence was all the girl heard on her way down that hallway,
but silence was the last thing she wanted.
The only sound was that of her feet hitting the floor,
but even that was quiet, fleeting, and meaningless.
Oh, how she wished she could scream.
Surely, someone would notice her silence,
someone would break the silence,
no one could possibly look at her and leave her in her silence,
but no one did, not that day.
She learned two things that day:
one;
that silence meant nothing,
silence means nothing is wrong,
if she didn't say anything, no one would ever know;
and two;
bending over to get a drink at the water fountain
is a fantastic way to hide silent tears.
