Ashera's P.O.V.
"You can't leave.", dad snapped.
"Actually the guys have partial custody of me. And Dylan's going to fight for full custody."
"He won't win. I'm your dad."
"You sure as hell don't act like it." I paused, "Y'know, I thought Braxton replacing me killed me, I really did. But losing my dad and my best friend all at once, it was a hundred times worse." I broke off my necklace, handing it to him, "I'll be where people give a shit about me."
~~~~
"Dad said he'd never forgive me if I fought for full custody of you.", Dylan said as I walked inside with my bags.
"I-I just said that Dylan. I don't expect you to, I-I just needed away from him."
"I never said it was stopping me kid."
"I'm sorry I'm such a fuck up." He grabbed my chin gently,
"Say shit like that about yourself again and see if I don't have your ass."
"Dad said it."
"Baby I'm sorry he treats you like shit. I promise I'm gonna do everything to fix it, okay?" I nodded,
"I-I know bubba."
~~~~
Dad walked into Dylan's house as I froze.
"I'd like you to knock please. This is still my house.", Dylan said calmly. I stood up, putting on my hoodie and grabbing my keys,
"I-I'm gonna go to the store. Do you need anything?" Dylan handed me his credit card,
"Get something for dinner. I don't care what just not pizza. I'm sick of it."
"Me too. I'll be back."
"Wait.", dad stopped me, "H-How long are you gonna be gone?" I scoffed,
"Depends on how long you're gonna be here."
"Ashera Michelle.", Dylan scolded, "You still need to be respectful."
"Sorry. I'll be back."
~~~~
I stared past Dylan- who was never cut out to be a dad, let alone act as mine- as he lectured me. I wanted to leave here too, but I was out of places to go.
"Ashera you're not even fucking listening to me!", Dylan snapped.
"Sorry.", I muttered.
"You cannot sneak out and get drunk like that. Do you understand how fucking worried I was!?"
"I'm sorry. I screwed up." What's new?
"What the hell is going through your head making you act like this Ash?" I shrugged a little,
"Who knows? Can you just hit me now?" He sighed, moving next to me with a thick wooden spoon,
"Yeah. Come on." I laid over his lap as he pulled off my leggings,
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
"Up." I did so, pulling my leggings back on as he held my chin in his hand, No more, do you understand me?"
"Yes sir. I'm sorry." He hugged me tightly as I stayed still,
"I forgive you." After a few minutes of me feeling awkward, I pulled away,
"Can I go?"
"Yeah. I love you." I nodded a little, getting up and leaving. I was sick of being the problem. Dylan stopped calling me pet names three weeks ago. he stopped listening six days ago. I barely saw Braxton since he was wrapped up in being a dad and Grayson was MIA. I didn't want to let them down anymore.
'Don't fight with each other. You did all you could, I'm just a lost cause. It's better this way,'
I laid the note on my nicely made bed, turned off the lights in my room, and walked out. I stopped in the hallway, watching as Dylan downed his beer from the couch, adding it to the other five empty bottles on the table and pulling out a new one from a cooler. I silently picked up the empty bottles and threw them away before cleaning up the kitchen and living room as Dylan watched the game without a word. I went to the bathroom door and paused,
"Dylan?"
"Hmm?", he didn't look up.
"I-I love you too bubba." He nodded a little, glancing from the T.V. to me and back. "I-I'm sorry I keep letting you down and disappointing you. I'm sorry I'm a screw up." A month ago, he would have been on his feet scolding me.
"It's okay.", he muttered. I paused,
"I'm-"
"Ash I'm trying to watch the game."
"Oh. Sorry.", I whispered, walking into the bathroom. I pulled out my black eyeliner, going to the mirror,
'I love you Braxxy. I'm sorry I broke my promise.'
I put it away, opening the cabinet and pushing aside Dylan's anti-depressants. Kinda funny he was on the meds but I was the one about to kill myself. In the back of the cabinet, I found a bottle of OxyContin, pouring a handful out,
"Here we go."
Grayson's P.O.V.
I answered Dylan's phone call,
"Yeah?"
"As-Ash tried to-to kill he-herself!", he sobbed.
~~~~
I sat up from the couch, breathing hard. In a panic, I grabbed my keys and phone and sped to Dylan's house. It's just a dream.
"Dy-" I stopped as I walked into his house. He sat on the couch watching T.V., a beer in his hand and three empty bottles on the table. "You're becoming an alcoholic with our sister living with you? Seriously?", I snapped, throwing the empties away.
"God it's a few fucking beers Grayson. Get off my ass."
"I-" A door opened down the hall before Ashera ran out in tears,
"I did a dumb thing!", she sobbed.
"Hey, calm down love. What'd you do?", I asked softly as Dylan sat up.
"I-I-I was just so-so sick of le-letting you guys d-down!"
"What? What did you-" I stopped as her eyes fluttered and she lost her balance, only for me to catch her, "Ash what the fuck did you take?"
"O-Oxy. It's fine.", she whispered, drifting in and out of sleep, "Now-Now you guys don't ha-have to deal with me-me. I-I love you."
~~~~
I've never felt worse about anything in my life.
"It's all my fault.", Dylan whispered, now sober and broken as we sat in Ashera's hotel room. Just me, him and Braxton. Dad never answered the phone.
"It's not.", I said softly, "We all neglected her a little bit and it-it just escalated."
"Cool so it's all of our faults. So much better." He paused, "I-I don't have kids. Or-Or a boyfriend or friends or even a fucking pet. I only have Ash. She's it. I can't do shit without her around Gray."
