Zach's P.O.V.

"Are you alright?", I asked Ashlyn, sitting on our bed.

"Y-", she stopped, shaking her head, "No. Not really."

"What's wrong?"

"I-I lied to you.", she muttered. I sighed,

"About what?"

"Why Dylan skipped dinner."

"So... you not only lied to me in general, but you lied to me about something to do with my kid?", I demanded, my anger growing, "Ashlyn we agreed to always be honest when it came to the kids."

"I-I know. I um- I just-" I let out a breath as she stopped,

"So if he's not sick, why did he skip dinner?", I asked lowly. I hated it when she hid stuff from me but lying was unacceptable.

"He-He was scared."

"Of what?"

"W-Well- um- I-"

"Ashlyn.", I growled, "Just tell me for fuck's sake."

"We-We had a big fight today. He got mad and started yelling and called me a bitch a few times-" She stopped as I stood up and stormed towards our closed door, only to be blocked by my love, "Stop.", she snapped, "Sit down and let me finish for God's sake." I grumbled but sat on the bed again,

"No one gets to disrespect my woman. Especially my own fucking son!"

"I know Z.", she said softly, "Listen, I love you so so much and what I'm gonna tell you is probably going to hurt you. But you have to hear it." My mind flew back to when I was eight,

"Are-Are you leaving me?", I whispered. She took my hands softly,

"Never ever. I am not your mother Zach.", she whispered, looking up at me as I avoided her eyes, "I will never be your mother. You guys are my whole world and I'd never ever leave you guys." I smiled,

"Good. I can't lose any of you."

"Well you're on the verge of losing Dylan. Or at least your relationship with him." I scoffed, standing up and beginning to pace,

"What relationship Ash?", I asked, my heart falling to my stomach, "I-I try and try but I feel farther from him than any of you."

"I-I know Zach. And that's partially on him-"

"Partially!? Ashlyn it's all on him! I'm the one trying and-"

"You try until you ruin it Zach!", she yelled, silencing me, "You try and try.", she whispered, "I know that. But right when it starts to work and you really start to get through to him, you ruin it. And that is why you're losing him. Zach, he's terrified of you. Absolutely terrified." I sat on the bed

"He-He is?" She nodded,

"A-And to be honest, sometimes I am too. Your temper takes over and you say things I know you don't mean but the kids can't separate that stuff Zach. They take everything to heart. That's why he's so scared and you're the only one who can fix it."

"I-I'm so sorry sweetie.", I whispered, "I wish you would have told me."

"I thought it was just me. Sometimes I just get scared for no reason. But when Dylan said he was afraid of you too, I knew I had to say something."

"W-Why did he tell you to begin with?"

"I threatened to call you when he was still being ridiculous even after we had time to cam down. I told him since my lectures weren't getting through to him, one from your belt might. He just kinda broke and started sobbing and begging me not to call you."
