Max's P.O.V.

"I feel awful.", Maverick whispered, hoping not to wake Mason, "I never should have said what I did."

"You were upset- rightfully so. You can apologize when he wakes up and he will forgive you because you're brothers."

"I know. I still feel terrible." Mason rolled over in my bed, bumping into Maverick and freezing,

"Bubba?", he asked sleepily. Maverick pet his hair softly,

"Yeah kid. Go back to sleep."

"You're not mad?"

"No, I forgive you. I'm sorry I was so terrible to you this morning."

"It's okay. I love you."

"I love you too."

"Mason I know it feels like you have to be here, but you don't.", Tyler said softly as we sat in his first therapy session.

"I need to though.", he said, glancing at me, "This isn't your fault. I-I'm just like this and I'm sorry."

"Mason should people with cancer apologize for having cancer?", Tyler asked.

"No, they can't help it. They're sick."

"You're sick too kid. You don't need to apologize for that to anyone."

"Mom was sick too but it was her fault."

"Mase that's different kid.", I said softly, "Your mother is a drug addict who's countlessly chosen drugs over you and her family. You had no choice in feeling like this."

"You're dad is right.", Tyler said, "Do you feel like he's gonna leave you?"

"Sometimes.", Mason whispered.

"Right now?"

"No." I smiled,

"Good. I'm not going anywhere kiddo. Ever."

"May I?", I asked the man next to me who had been trying to quiet his crying baby for almost ten minutes.

"If-If you want.", he forced a laugh, handing me the small bundle of blankets. I bounced her a little for a minute before she went silent and fell asleep. I gently passed her back to the guy as he relaxed, "Oh my god you're a life saver."

"I'm good with kids.", I shrugged, "I'm Max."

"Luke. She hasn't slept in days. I've tried everything. The doctor gave her medicine but it makes me nervous to give her anything. I'm allergic to a lot of medications so I feel like she might be too." He paused before laughing nervously, "Sorry. I don't know why I'm rambling." I chuckled,

"It's okay. It actually happens a lot, I don't mind. How old is she?"

"Eight months. Her mom died giving birth."

"I'm sorry. I have three, kinda four kids. But they're all older. I miss when they were little."

"We fostered a boy for a few years who's in college now. She's technically my first, but really my second."

"Is there anything you won't try to get her to sleep?"

"Co-Sleeping."

"Really? Why not?"

"Honestly? My-My parents did when I was younger but it irritated them. As a result my sister and I had really bad night terrors and sleeping problems and I still do. She told me I didn't want to co-sleep because I'd end up with teenagers in my bed."
