"He's fast," Lexie heard Steve say as she and Hill quietly entered the room, watching the doctors work on Fury through the glass. "Strong. Had a metal arm."
"Ballistics?" Natasha asked, silently taking Lexies hand in hers.
"Three slugs, no rifling," Hill responded. "Completely untraceable."
"Soviet-made."
"Yeah."
They all turned to the doctors again, when they heard a nurse say: "He's in V-tach."
"Crash cart coming in," another nurse said.
"Nurse, help me with the drape," the doctor said.
"BP's dropping," the first nurse said.
"Defibrillator!" The doctor said. They couldn't do anything but watch on as they tried to save him. Lexie gripped Natashas hand tightly. "I want you to charge him at 100."
"Don't do this to me, Nick," she heard Natasha mutter.
"Stand back," a nurse said. "Three, two one. Clear."
"Pulse?" the doctor asked
"No pulse."
"Okay, 200, please. Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear."
Nothing.
"Get me epinephrine! Pulse?"
"Negative."
"Don't do this to me, Nick," Natasha continued. "Don't do this to me."
Lexie was blinking away tears, watching the scene in front of her intently. "Come on," she whispered. "Wake up."
But he didn't.
The doctor asked: "What's the time?"
"1:03, doctor," a nurse responded.
"Time of death, 1:03 a.m."
Lexie let one stray tear fall from her eyes, but in the chaos of emotions she was feeling, she failed to notice that she didn't feel him die and pass to the other side.

Natasha was standing by Furys body, while Steve and Lexie stood silently side-by-side by the door. Hill walked in and stood next to Steve. "I need to take him."
Steve laid a hand on Lexies shoulder, giving it a small squeeze and her a sad smile before moving over to Natasha.
"Natasha," he said.
She laid a hand on Furys head, before quickly retracting it and leaving the room with Steve following.
Lexie stayed with Hill. She didn't have any business meddling in whatever it was Steve and Natasha were up to. Not until she was needed or was told to.

Filler chapter so it's really short. I'm not gonna write Lexie into the entire storyline of ca:tws because I just feel like it wouldn't make sense for her to be there the entire time. Lexie's still with S.H.I.E.L.D. so it makes more sense for me that she's more on the sidelines here with Maria. Don't worry though, she will have her moment during the fight.
Anyway, I'm off to babysit my sisters new puppy. It'll be my first time meeting her and I'm really excited, she's adorable. Just wanted to get this chapter out before I left.
