It had been two years since the Battle of New York, and not much had changed for Lexie. Yes, she was 18 now, a legal adult, but she didn't have much more freedom than before. She'd only been allowed out a few times to visit Tony for a few hours, before she had to return.

She hated it.

She knew herself and her powers better now. She wouldn't go rogue or lose control. She didn't need to be watched like a ticking time bomb, or treated like a weapon, anymore.

Her and Agent Hill were away from the base for a bit. There was an operation Agent Hill needed to be part of, and she invited Lexie along, using the excuse that it would be a nice learning experience for the younger woman. In reality, Hill felt sympathy for Lexie, remembering when she herself was 18 and only wanted to go to the mall with her friends, but her parents would say no. This wasn't quite the same, but she understood Lexies want for a little bit more freedom.

They were just leaving the hotel they'd been staying at, walking down the street to go meet some people who were part of the operation, when Hills phone rang. "This is Hill," she answered putting it on speaker so Lexie could hear. "You're on speaker, Williams is with me."

"I need you here in D.C." Director Fury said. "Deep shadow conditions."

"Give us four hours."

"You have three. Over," he hung up.

"Guess we're going back," Hill turned to Lexie. "Sorry kiddo."

"It's fine," she smiled as they turned around to go back to the hotel to get their things. "What do you think's going on?"

"No idea, but it has to be something serious if he wants us back that quickly."

"Or maybe he's suffering from separation anxiety," Lexie grinned, causing Hill to laugh shortly before they got in the elevator and the doors closed.

They were in the car, Hill was speeding down the road so they could hopefully make it back to bas on time. Lexie had connected the AUX to her phone, Tony had bought one for her, and was blasting Midnight Memories by One Direction, singing along.

"As much as I normally like your singing, can you please turn that down?" Hill shouted over the music. "I'm going deaf here."

"But it's a great song," she shouted back.

"I agree, and I'd like to hear it again, but I can't do that if you burst my eardrums."

"It'd be worth it." The song ended and she turned to Hill and asked: "Can we go to McDonald's please? I've never actually been there, but Nat smuggled me chili cheese fries once and it was delicious."

"We don't really have time," Hill said, but Lexie could tell she wanted to go as well.

"We can go to a drive-through, it'll only take a few minutes. Pleeeeeeaaaase?" she begged, smiling when Hill turned the wheel and drove towards the nearest McDonalds.

"I think I drank too much iced tea," Lexie grumbled. "I have to pee."

"We'll be there in less than an hour," Hill said. "Can you hold it?"

"No."

Hill sighed and drove to the gas station. "Fine, but you're buying me two chocolate bars."

"Done," Lexie smiled and thanked her as she jumped out of the now parked car, sprinting inside.

"I'm picking the music now," Hill said, munching on a piece of chocolate.

"What do you want to listen to?" Lexie asked, putting down her bag of sour patch kids and picking up her phone again.

"Fleetwood Mac."

"Good choice," she said and searched up the group, put the playlist 'This Is Fleetwood Mac' on shuffle, and soon Edge of Seventeen started playing.

"Are we there yet," Lexie asked.

"No."

Ten minutes later.

"Are we there yet?"

"No!"

Five minutes later.

"Are we there yet?"

"No! We'll be there soon."

Ten minutes later.

"We're here," Hill said, breathing out a sigh of relief.

"Yaaay," Lexie cheered, jumping out of the car to stretch her legs.

The good mood was cut short when an agent informed them that Fury was in a critical condition at the hospital as soon as they entered the building.

"Back in the car we go," Lexie muttered sadly before perking up again. "Can I drive?"

"No!"

This chapter barely has anything to do with the plot of the movie, but if you can't tell, I'm a simp for Maria Hill, Stevie Nicks and the boys from One Direction, so we're just gonna go with it.

Anywayyy, first chapter of ca:tws, which means the wonderful Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson will soon be introduced.

Erin will also appear at the end of this part of the book, and I'm already in love with them.

That's all from me. Vote and comment xx
