Wanda Maximoff had gotten into Tonys head. His eyes followed the giant Chitauri and he soon saw the other Avengers lying either dead or dying on the ground. He felt his heart drop and his breath quicken, fear growing in him.

His eyes drifted over the Hulk, Natasha, Clint, Thor, the broken shield, Steve and landed on Lexie.

The closest thing he had to a daughter.

His responsibility.

Yet here she was.

Dead.

He had failed her.

She was lying a bit further up than Steve, who was closest to where Tony was stood, and unlike the others, she didn't have any visible injuries. Despite this, she was the most unnerving one to look at. Her normally bright, hazel eyes were completely black, like how they got when she used her powers, and empty, her lips were parted, after having let out her last breath, her skin was ghostly pale, as if life itself had been drained from her, and there was an air of serenity and finality surrounding her.

He approached the group, his family, and crouched down next to Steve. Looking into Lexies cold, dead eyes had become unbearable and Steve was closest. He checked the mans pulse, his eyes widening when Steves hand closed around his wrist.

"You could have saved us," Steve said with a strained voice, before he went still again and a drop of blood trailed from his nose.

Tony let the words sink in, staring at the face of his friend. His eyes once again drifting up to Lexie.

Was this his fault?

Did he do this to them?

To her?

A new voice spoke up in a whisper. "Why didn't you do more?"

He heard a rumbling and screeching, and shakily looked up, seeing a new wormhole, with the earth on the other side, and countless Chitauri Leviathan moving towards it.

He snapped back to reality, the vision ending, and checked his surroundings, his body still slightly shaking. He held out his hand and waited for the hand part of the suit, and grabbed the scepter.

He was going to fix this.

He wasn't going to lose his family again.

He wasn't going to lose Lexie

This chapter was kinda painful to write.

I didn't know if I was gonna include this because it obviously follows Tony, not Lexie. But I felt that it's so important to the plot because this vision is basically what drives him to create Ultron and I wanted to explain it from his perspective.
