41. Meeting a puppy

Me, Felix and Nora had spent the whole of the morning buying food and decorations for Minty's party. We got green and sliver balloons and streamers and a white table cloth from a shop on fifth avenue and spent a good time looking for apple juice in the local supermarket. We did get party food as well be all three of us knew that it was important that we got apple juice because it was Minty's favourite after all.

Nora payed for the decorations and half of the food. We payed for the other half and for Minty's passport and plane ticket back to England. Her adoption papers were all signed and registered in Britain so she was now legally an American and British citizen. She was also now legally Luna Minty Kjellberg as well.

We made her last name Felix's because we were going to be married soon and it saves changing the paperwork if we gave her my last name. I was registered as Minty's adoptive mother so we wouldn't have to change that either. All this was happening so quickly and I honestly couldn't wait to be a mother!

"What are you smiling for?" Felix asked as we walked down the high street. We were heading back to the orphanage with loads of bags in our hands.
"Oh, just that we're going to be parents soon." I said with a grin. Felix looked at my tummy then at me with a smile and nodded.

"And damn good ones at that." Nora said nudging me playfully with her elbow. We all laughed turning a corner past a pet shop.
"Aww, look at him." Felix said pointing. Nora and I looked to see that there was a cute little brown Pug puppy sat in the window of the pet shop.

"Aww." I said as Nora and I stopped to look through the window at the adorable little dog. It looked up at is with it's head tilted curiously. It's big brown eyes danced with playfulness.
"That's one cute puppy." Nora said and I nodded.
"It's a lively thing as well." Felix said as the puppy ran around barking. It then grabbed a small but tattered and torn teddy bear and played with it a little.

"Come on, let's go and take a closer look at him." I said walking into the shop. Felix and Nora followed me and I walked over to the window to look in the glass container that had the little puppy in it. It looked up at me and barked at me. His bark was funny and it fit him well. I laughed as he stood barking at me.
"That little guy is a real show off." A voice said and I looked to see a young brown haired boy that had a blue polo shirt that had the shop's logo on it.

"He's a cute little dog." I said and he nodded in agreement.
"His a curious thing as well, always sniffing people and crawling into small spaces to explore." The boy said giving the puppy a scratch on the ears that he seemed to like.
"How much for him?" Felix's voice asked seriously and the boy turned to look at him but his eyes went as wide as golf balls.

"For a regular customer, $700. For you pewds, an autograph and $500." He said not looking away from Felix but with disbelief in his voice.
"Yeah, why exactly are you going to buy him?" Nora asked Felix and he looked over slowly at her.
"Minty is a curious thing, and so it this puppy. They'll get along well and she can have someone to take care of." Felix said and Nora nodded with a curled lip that indicated she was impressed.

"It can give her some practice when she becomes a big sister." I added and Felix nodded.
"I mean," Felix began picking up the puppy. "Look at the little guy." He said as the puppy yelped. He then looked at us all a little confused before tilting his head at Felix.
"I think he looks confused." Nora said with a laugh and we all laughed with her.
"He looks like Maya when she first came to Brighton." I said and Felix laughed and nodded.
"Confused." he said as the puppy fidgeted in his arms more.

"Where can we sign papers to adopt him?" I asked the boy and he smiled.
"Right this way." He said and I followed him. Felix placed the puppy back in the container for Nora to fuss over then he followed me to the counter with the cash register and a file with forms in side it. Now we have another member of our family.
