"Sleep tight." I kissed Hope's cheek before leaving her bedroom. I went down to the lounge where everyone who was still up was. "Damon and I are going to head back to the apartment," I tell them. "You should stay it's late."Hayley tried to reason. "I know she wants me here. But I can't." "You proved to us you didn't want to hurt her, You almost died doing the impossible tonight. You get the witches to give you magic to protect her." I pushed my lips together.

"Damon I want to go home," I tell him. He's the only one that's likely to just agree with what I want for an easy life, plus Bonnies went away to visit her mum for thanksgiving and the girls are home from school so his brother and care and both preoccupied meaning I'm his only friend right now. "This is your home Azalea," Dad said. "It was Hope's home first," I tell them turning to leave. "Z." "Damon don't okay. It's already hard enough." "If it's this hard then don't leave." "Lots of things are hard you just do them for the greater good. That's life." "Nothing is as big of an urge as protecting her. You realise you're fighting against her protection right now." "Yeah, there are a few urges that are as strong as protecting Hope." "What?" "Like wanting to kiss you. But it's bad. It's a bad idea because-" I stopped talking. I just told him I wanted to kiss him. "Can we just leave?" I asked him. He was doing that weird eye thing at me, he does it when he's in shock sometimes or processing it. We call it the Damon Eye thing. Not really another name for it he's the only one that can do it. We try mocking it sometimes but we all just look clinically insane.

"In fact, I'll just take my car, to Penelope's." "Z!" I didn't stick around long enough. I've made a fool of myself enough today.

"He'll probably just tease you about it until he gets bored." Penelope tried to rationalise my thoughts that were spiralling through my brain right now. "Or he'll never speak to me again and my only friend that doesn't live at the school will disown me forevermore leaving me utterly alone." "Solution: Just come to the school." "Problem: Hope attends that school and I can't be around her." "Please, you're not dangerous Zlea. You have control over the blood lust, you never have urges, you've stopped focusing on everyone's heartbeats and getting distracted by them. You're a good vampire Azalea." "There are no good Vampires," I tell her sharply. "My dad is the towns serial kill my uncle former ripper, Kol a psychopath. Bex is vengeful. Stefan is a ripper and Damon he's Damon."

"But then there's you. And Care." "Care killed someone the day she turned." "And you haven't killed anyone." "As a vampire. I killed a whole pack of wolves." "To protect Hope." She shot back just as fast. "Look I'm not good for Hope okay. She needs-"Her sister." "I need her too but it's just not safe." "You're being paranoid. You're hurting her more by staying away from her." "I'm not meaning to." "I know."

"So you like Damon?" I pushed her, she changed the subject as she could tell I was getting sad but changing it back to Damon to tease and mock me. "He's hot. I see it. If he was a girl I'd totally-"You'd be friends with him. You wouldn't date him at all. You're into the princess type." "Like you." "Well I mean my father is the king of New Orleans." I joked.

----------

I heard a tapping on Penelope's window. We must have fallen asleep watching a film. I felt around for the TV control finally retrieving it to turn the TV off that stopped the glow in the room plugging it into darkness. I got comfortable on the sofa again before trying to go back to sleep.

I wasn't awake enough to wake Penelope up and suggest we make our way to her bedroom and decided that the living room was comfortable enough in my hazy state. But there was that tapping again. I sat up slightly and looked towards the window. "Damon?" "Come outside." "It's the middle of the night." "Take your butt dial elsewhere." P said from the other sofa. "Sorry," I whispered before getting up. I wrapped the blanket around my shoulders before tiptoeing through the house and to the front door where Damon was waiting. I closed the door behind me after making sure it wouldn't lock on me.
