Chapter 8 - Sleepless Nights

       The sky was very clear that night unlike his mind. Sitting in the terrace garden and gazing at the night sky became his habit whenever he wanted to take some important decisions. Sekar definitely needed some free time from the chaos his family is facing. It all started with his brother falling terribly sick. Eventhough he knew that his brother is sick he hoped for the best but it turned out to be quick. All of his family knew about his brother's sickness expect his wife.

"Hey Pappu, I miss you a lot man", Sekar said looking up at the sky.

He sighed and continued the gazing of stars to clear his mind. Most of the times his little brother will make wiser decision than him. But never in his dreams thought that his little brother will betray their mother. The news Mahesh bought to him was disturbing. If it is not carefully handled it will shake the root of his family. Sekar definitely doesn't want that to happen.He have to act fast but he don't know how.

Meanwhile,

Vijay looked up at the sky from his balcony and smiled. The night was peaceful with stars covering the clear sky. His heart was filled with happiness and the reason is the one and only Mazhi kutty ma. He spent his whole day with her; playing with her; feeding her; making her sleep and even sleeping with her. He felt content after many days. But tomorrow he have to face the reality of his life. His office needs him and moreover he has to answer his family's questions regarding Kavitha and Mazhilini. He rubbed his face and went towards his bed.

     Sleep was miles away from Kavitha. She looked at her daughter Mazhilini sleeping peacefully beside her. She had picked up the habit of her father by sleeping holding her saree. She smiled remembering the moments she had spent with her husband. She was struck on one of those moments when they got to knew that they were pregrant. Her family was happy and was very much excited to welcome their first grandchild. Kavitha got the shock of her life when her mother in law hugged her and fed her sweet after knowing about her pregnancy.
      When her delivery date was near Kavitha and Bhasker even argued over the gender of the baby. Kavitha wanted her first child to be a boy but Bhasker wanted it to be a girl. And atlast Bhasker won when Mazhilini was born. He was very supportive through out her pregnancy. He made sure Kavitha was not working. He even gave some silly reasons to his mother when she questioned about Kavitha not doing any works. All those sweet memories brought fresh set of tears and she don't know when she drifted off to sleep.

Vijay woke up to the sound of a crying baby. He got confused and looked here and there.
He face palmed him when he realised that it was Mazhilini. He got up from the bed hurriedly and went towards the guest room in which Kavitha was staying. Mazhilini slept in his room last night. She held his shirt tightly while sleeping. He was brought to reality by the loud crying coming from the room.

He stood at the room's door and hesitated to go inside. But Mazhilini's crying made him to move forward towards the room. He twisted the door know,luckily the room was not locked from inside. Vijay hurriedly went inside and took the Mazhilini from the bed.

Asusual Mazhilini wrapped her little hands around Vijay's neck and placed her head on his shoulder. All those crying made her tired. Vijay looked at Kavitha. She was sleeping peacefully. He did not failed to notice the dried tears in her cheek. He came to a conclusion that she cried to sleep. But not waking up to Mazhilini's crying ringed a alarm in his brain. He immediately went towards his mother's room with Mazhilini.The gentle patting of Vijay made Mazhilini to sleep again. Whenever she cried in the night, her father will come to her aid. He will make her sleep by patting her back. So Vijay's patting brought back her unfinished sleep.

Chitra was a light sleeper. The small knocking sound woke her up and she was confused to see her son standing with Mazhilini at her door step.

"What are doing in the middle of the night?", she questioned her son and looked at Mazhi with concern.

"Is Mazhi alright?", Chitra asked Vijay.

"Ma, Mazhi is alright. I woke up by hearing Mazhilini's crying", Vijay replied hurriedly.

"Then what happened. Why are you standing here?", Chitra replied with a confused look.

"Ma, let me finish. Though Mazhilini's crying woke up me from the adjacent room, her mother didn't woke up", Vijay replied in a single breath.

"Ha ha, it seems everytime when Mazhilini needed something while Kavitha was sleeping, it was my brother who comes to her aid", Vijitha replied from inside.

"Hey.. shut up Viji", Vijay said and continued.

"What if it is an emergency situation. What if Kavitha had fainted again and what if.."

The blabbering of Vijay was cut short by Vijitha.
