Chapter 12 - Emergencies

It's been a rough month for Vijay. He was fully occupied with cases. He was pushed to work on night shifts and as a result he missed Mazhilini. He had many unsolved case files piled up before him and the red colored folder caught his attention when he was thinking about Mazhilini.

He could not remember the place where he had seen a similar red colored folder and he decided to look over the report in it. But he was distracted by the ringing of his personal phone. It's very rare for him to get call in his personal number during his working hours.
He frowned when he looked at the caller ID as 'Home' and various anxious thoughts clouded his mind. He took the call immediately and the news he got made him to exit his office without any delay.

The sight before Vijay when he come home,took away his breath. Kavitha was lying in the sofa unconscious and a crying Mazhilini stood by her side. Earlier he was informed by his house maid that Kavitha was not waking up and they were not able to stop the contious crying of Mazhilini inspite of trying many ways.
He rushed to his home immediately after hearing the news.

On his way home,he tried calling his mom, Vijitha and even Karthik but no one was available. He thought the best way is to take Kavitha to the hospital.

"Where are the others?", Vijay asked while entering his house.

The sound of Vijay got Mazhilini's attention. She was used to his voice. She can recognize him as her 'Vij'. She ran towards him with her small legs and hugged his legs and started crying even more. Everyone melted seeing Mazhilini. All the maids knew her story. She lost her father just before a month and may be looking at her mother in the same state made her to cry more.

However,she stopped her crying when Vijay took her in his arms and cooed her.

"Hmm, what happened? Why Mazhi ma is crying", Vijay asked softly by patting her back.

"Ma", that's all she managed to say and once again burst into tears by hugging her Vij.

"Okay okay. Nothing happened to Ma. You, my strong girl Mazhi ma,should not cry because your Vij is here to take care of Ma", Vijay once again said and made her to face him.

"See, you should be a good girl and you have to be with Chella ma without crying while I take  your Ma to hospital", Vijay said and kissed her forehead.

Chella Ma,their house's caretaker took Mazhilini with smile. Mazhilini being a cute little baby girl, was cherished by most of the  family members and even by all the maids.
After giving Mazhilini to Chella ma, Vijay shifted his attention towards Kavitha. He took her in his arms and went towards his car.

Vijitha and Karthik came out of the Operation Theatre after assisting their mom.

"Atlast, I can sit and relax", Viji said with a sigh and took her phone out from her bag. When she turned on her phone, she frowned looking at the number of missed calls from his brother.
Beside her, Karthik too had same expression as her.

"Vijay called me many times", both said simultaneously making the people around them turn towards them.

"It's very unusual for Vijay to call us during his working hours", Vijitha stated with worry filled voice.

"But his mobile is put of reach now", Karthik said but a commotion outside ER Department made them to stand rooted in their place.
