Chapter - 21 - An evening

Chitra frowned when she looked at her garden. All of her children expect Karthik were present there with all smiles. It's a very rare sight to see. Even Kavitha and Mazhi were also present. Her frown turned into a gracious smile. Kavitha is coming out of her cocoon and she knew it's because of her son's constant efforts. Her eyes drifted to Vijay who had placed Mazhi securely in his laps. Her heart warmed at the sight. How much she wanted her son to  have a family;to have a daughter;to be happy. She had learnt her lesson in a hard way so now she is more determined to stand by her son whatever the situation comes.

Chella was the first one to notice Chitra standing at the far and gazing at her children. She smiled after witnessing the Chitra's full blown smile. She had been working for Chitra for more than 15 years. She had been with Chitra through her thick and thin. So she knew the thoughts going through Chitra's mind. Chella called Chitra loudly and was successful in bringing Chitra out of her bubble. All of their attention turned towards Chitra.

"Mom, come and taste these. Kavitha made it for us", Rithvin called her loudly.

"Rithvin, Kavitha is elder than you. Addressing her with her name is wrong", Vijay twisted his brother's ear saying this.

"Brooo, ahhhaaa, leave me yar. It's paining", Rithvin trashed against his brother.

"Mom, look at your son. He is trying to make me deaf", Rithvin yelled causing Vijay to twist his ear some more.

"Drama Queen", Vijitha said rolling her eyes at Rithvin and Vijay. She used this perfect opportunity to steal some cookies from Vijay and Rithvin. Kavitha giggled seeing all these and all of their attention turned towards Kavitha.

"Oh my God, Now I got to know that Kavitha knew how to laugh too", Rithvin exclaimed, which earned a smack in his head from his Chitra mom.

"Mommmm, you too", Rithvin whined.

"It's very happy to see you people relaxing", Chitra said caressing Rithvin's hair.

All smiled at her.

"Mom, today Kavitha made cookies for us. You should taste it", Viji said.

"Ohh Kavitha you should rest", Chitra said to Kavitha.

"Ma, actually I was bored so only I came to kitchen to help Chella ma", Kavitha said politely.

Chitra tasted the cookies and her eyes widened.

"Wow, it's very delicious", Chitra said, went near Kavitha and patted her head. Kavitha was stunned by Chitra's action. No one had patted her head with this much affection in her existence. The affection she was getting from this family especially from Chitra is making her emotional.

"Ohhoo no crying Kavitha", Chitra said and side hugged her.

"Ma, I have a request. Shall I cook for you people?", Kavitha asked when they resumed eating cookies and having small talks.

Chitra smiled at her and said, "You can cook for us".

"Mom, No its not safe for her", Vijay objected immediately making everyone chuckle.

"I didnot finished yet Vijay. And also it is not good for her to sit idle in the house", Chitra said.

Chitra turned her attention towards Kavitha and continued,

"But I have a condition. You can cook for us in alternative days. And at anytime if you feel tired while cooking you should stop doing that work to take rest", Chitra said with a no arguments voice.

Kavitha was happy that atleast she could do some work for this family. She was confident that she won't get tired while she was cooking. She cooked for her family during her first pregnancy. So she said that

"It's not a big deal. I had cooked during my first pregnancy everyday untill my last month".

Chitra's eyes softened. She caressed her head and said,

"Every pregnancy is different Kavitha. Maybe in your past,there was no one to help. But now you have us, so we will help you to take proper rest"

This once again bought tears from Kavitha. Chitra smiled and once again side hugged her.

"Ohhhhhooo what I said about crying", Chitra said and wiped out the tears from Kavitha's face. Kavitha nodded her head with a happy smile and left for the kitchen to take out another set of cookies along with Chella ma.

Prakash was standing at the entrance of the garden and watched the drama that took place before him. He had came earlier from the office to confront his sister in law about Kalaiselvi. His sister was not discharged from the hospital. She was in the hospital since last week. Though his son is taking care of his sister he wanted her to be in her rightful house. He walked towards the group which was happily smiling, igniting the fire within him.

"Wow dad, you too came early. Come on taste these cookies 🍪", Rithvin unaware of his father's anger held the plate infront of him.

But just a look from his father made him withdraw the plate from him.

"No issues. I will eat it myself", Rithvin muttered to himself and started eating the cookies, earning chuckles from from his cousins.

Prakash, ignoring all these ruckus caused by his son turned his attention towards Chitra.

"Chitra Anni(Sister-in-law), I wanted to know about your decision", Prakash said with gritted teeth.
